Default Which tire?

I think I have narrowed it down to 2 tires.

205/45R16 Bridgestone Potenza RE760 Sport

205/45R16 General Exclaim UHP

Both are very similar in ratings, the Potenza have a bit more cornering stability, dry traction, steering response, noise comfort, and dry traction. Not huge differences but the Potenza's are $100 more total for all 4?

I am in favor of more grip in the turns.

Mathematically, you might compare the tire wear numbers versus the price...

1.Divide the high dollar tires' price into the low dollar tires' price.
2.Multiply that number times the low dollar tires' wear number.
3.If the answer is less than the high dollar's wear number, then
financially the high dollar tire is a better deal.........

....all else being equal.......which it never is....everybody has their favorite way of comparing tires.....-Bob

Actually wear numbers, and actual wear, in diffrent conditions are not consistent. tread block size and tire construction have much more to do with wear moreso if the tire is driven at or near the limit.

I've found high treadwear tires actually wear faster (for me) since instead of pealing off on the pavement the tires chunk or powder off and this can cause a high UTOG tire to wear out.. not to mention a sliding tire will always wear faster then a gripping tire.

so which ones to get? The Potenza weighs 4lbs more. I assume it has a stiffer sidewall which is why it might have better response and traction. But is it worth another $100 for them?

If you drive like a grandma on the street, probably not.

If you corner aggressively, or just want the extra grip available for when you might need it. YES.

Of course, the Potenza you're talking about isn't exactly the highest performance street tire out there, either. Still, I'd expect it to be way better than anything with the General name on it.

Keep in mind that consumer tire ratings have everything to do with the expectations of the reviewer. The person buying a General tire probably has low expectations, and if they don't go skidding off the road, they're happy. The Potenza buyer is likely to have higher expectations and if the tire doesn't perform well, it's going to get lower ratings. For this reason, I'd consider similar ratings between the two tires to be BETTER ratings for the Potenza. If the Potenza raters were rating the General, they'd likely have rated it lower. (I'm sure I could have said that with fewer words)

Look for things like the Tire Rack's actual tire test reviews with facts and figures. If they're not testing the tire you're looking at... there's probably a reason. If it's worth having, they've tested it.

lmao good one. I still have yet to buy tires and I want the RE760's but then I tell people about my options an they have had a great experience with the Exclaims. I have Exclaims on my other wheels that I am selling. I thought they were great tires! But what have I had to compare to? Factory all seasons? lol

Toyo R1-R seem to be the fastest tire on the market right now.

Quiet, good grip and affordable.

I sell them here from my shop on an order basis, as they are hard to keep in stock.
