The car is still for sale. Someone came to look at it tonight and I think they're still interested, but perhaps are looking at other options as well.

In any event, my friend is now looking to get somewhere between $1000 and $1500 for it because, for whatever reason, he took the car to a mechanic to have the tune-up completed and brakes replaced. So, instead of spending $100 on parts and having me do it, he paid the mechanic just over $500. I believe he was drunk because when he came over to my apartment to explain what happened, he was plastered.

So, the price is now $1500 obo.

5) exhaust leak.... BAD exhaust leak
6) radio don't work
7) in between oil changes you have to add a gallon

wow, a price increase because he spent half of his asking price on something he didn't plan on keeping?

sorry, but your friend is a DUMBASS.

no longer interested, thanx.

You know more about the car than I do. I listed it for a friend and I listed all I knew about the car. I found out about the trunk latch last night while you did ("afro engineer" makes me wonder what they're teaching in Riverview). To repair the latch (it is a power latch that GM puts on certain vehicles (e.g. Cadillacs)), you either need to replace the gear that moves the latch up and down the rails or secure the latch onto the rails in the fully seated position. His father plans on doing the latter if the car does not sell soon so that this is no longer an issue.

I did not know the radio did not work - I just found out after reading your post.

I forgot about the wing - I don't see the car every day (and have only seen the car a few times ever) and all I have were the pictures provided to me and, as you can see, there is no suggestion of a broken spoiler. If this is a concern for a potential buyer I'll purchase a replacement and install it before the sale.

I believe his father said he had to add a quart between oil changes, not a gallon. And, a quart is nothing for a 14 year old car.
It does have an exhaust leak. The leak is at the donut gasket between the collector and downpipe on the passanger's side. I did not intend to list that as it seemed relatively insignificant (a $5 gasket that can be replaced with very little labor).

I have no obligation to give this car a 21 point inspection and I believe I offered more information than most people do when listing their own cars.

Finally, how, exactly, were you trying to help me out? You wanted to purchase a car. My friend wanted to sell a car. I do not benefit in any way from this transaction. You're not doing me a favor by purchasing this car.

I agree that he made a mistake by taking the car to a mechanic and getting taxed. However, I believe his new asking price, regardless of the reason for the amendment (as the reason is not really relevant to whether the asking price is reasonable), is still a fair asking price. Before putting the car up for sale, we looked at what comparable Camaros were selling for in the area, and while we could not determine the selling prices, the average asking price was just over $1600. The average asking price for clean cars with similar miles (i.e. good paint and interior) was $3000. If someone purchased the car for $1500 or less it would not cost $1500 to bring the car back to the condition of the aforementioned $3000 contemporaries. It's a fair price.
I only mention this because I don't like the implication that somehow the new asking price is too high.
