Motorcyclist dies after Tuesday crash

BROOKSVILLE -- A 62-year-old motorcyclist died at St. Joseph's Hospital on Tuesday after being struck by a van, according to Florida Highway Patrol.

Around 1:40 p.m., Karl Nathan Niski of Ocala was driving his 1991 Honda motorcycle on U.S. 19 when Barbara J. Adams, 67, of Weeki Wachee pulled out from St. Andrews Boulevard in a 2006 Chrysler van, troopers said.

Adams, who was coming from the east, stopped at the stop sign but did not yield to Niski, who was traveling south, and hit him.

Niski was airlifted to St. Joseph's, where he died. Adams was not injured and was charged with violating the right of way, troopers said.

I don't understand it either. I know the old people have numbers down here, but laws do not discriminate based on age. It is not like the law should read, if you are over 65 years old and kill someone, just if you kill someone. I doubt the majority of old people would vote down a law like that, or complain about the enforcement of laws like that. After all, I don't think they drive around thinking, "Geez, I am too old and imcompetent behind the wheel and I may kill someone today, so I better not vote for laws that punish people that kill with their cars or I might go to jail!"

Anyone found at fault in an accident with fatalities should do mandatory jail time. Who in their right mind thinks having mud on your license plate warrants a harsher penalty than killing someone!?!

True, driving takes serious responsibility to prevent accidents/deaths. They should definately take a license from someone who is at fault for killing someone...
