ive never been to an event, but i know their at FSF, i dont really know what all to do/bring besides bring some drinks, sunscreen, and some ducttape for the tires. plus i got an AWD DSM, should i even bother coming and competing (dont know any other dsm's that go) and is there like cash prizes or awards or something of that nature, and are there categories? i would hope so, a wrx and a base model civic seem a little unmatched.

if there is a site that would better answer this please post it, i dont wanna come off as a nuissance to all of ya.

 

There is a sticky thread that says, "Auto-X handbook for beginners". That would be a good place to start. Ignore the part about classing though, because it is outdated. Just run in the NOVICE class until you get a trophy in it.

 

When is the next event?

Well, unless there's one this weekend that I don't know about (very possible as I haven't been looking for one), the next one could be the SunRiders autocross on March 9th.

How to prepare?

Why do you need duct tape for your tires??? Definitely come prepared for the typical outdoor event. (water, sunscreen, yadda yadda) Don't worry about what other cars will be there, it doesn't matter, especially not your first time. An AWD DSM is a fun autox ride, though maybe not the ideal one.

Check out the autox novice guide on the Tire Rack or do a web search for "autocross novice guide", you'll come up with several.

Local autocrosses are pretty casual and I've never heard of any giving cash prizes, though most do give out trophies for the class winners. If you stick with the sport long enough and want to do larger National level events such as SCCA National Tours and Pro Solos, then there is money to be won, mostly in the form of contingencies from sponsors. But you're a long way from having to concern yourself with any of that. Just go have some fun, feel out "the game" and see if it's for you.

 

thanks, yea the march 9 event was the one i have been planning on going to, the duct tape was to check my tire roll (thought thats what was used) and i read the whole tire rack guide a day or two ago, sounds like really fun stuff and i seriously wanna give it a shot. plus the SPC course is like 5 minutes away so i have no problem finding it. about how long do these events last like 10AM till 3PM?

 

Actual run-time, yeah, about 10-3pm or so. You'll want to be there early, though. 8-9am or earlier.

Tires are usually marked with white shoe polish or chalk.

For the Sunriders, it's $25 for members, $30 for non-members. If you want to join the club, it's $20/yr.

Entry fee includes lunch.
