[h=2]LE MANS: 60-car entry list unveiled[/h] Thursday, 02 February 2017

The Automobile Club de l'Ouest unveiled its list of the 60 cars invited to take part in the 2017 24 Hours of Le Mans. For the first time, the ACO chose to conduct the event using an online interactive format. The 85th race promises a repeat of last year's duel between Porsche and Toyota in LMP1 as well as a record field in LMP2.
The field consists of six 6 LMP1s, 25 LMP2s, 13 GTE Pros and 16 GTE Am entries.
"Endurance is in very good health and the 2017 season looks full of promise," said Pierre Fillon, President of the Automobile Club de l'Ouest.


"Today, we discovered the three great entry lists for the ELMS, the FIA WEC and of course the Le Mans 24 Hours. The on-track spectacle will be absolutely fantastic with duels among top-class drivers and all-out rivalry between the competitors. All the ingredients that make up the ADN of endurance have been combined for 2017.
"The field for the Le Mans 24 Hours is particularly rich with 16 nationalities from the four corners of the world and a host of teams, most of which race in our continental series in Europe, the United States and Asia thanks to the Asian Le Mans Series, which has really taken off! It is all proof of the success of the endurance pyramid so dear to the ACO. The 2017 Le Mans 24 Hours promise us a great spectacle on the track as well as a week's festivities to be enjoyed to the [fullest]."
In LMP1, Toyota entered three TS050-Hybrids to battle defending race champion Porsche, who will bring its 919s in an effort to earn the manufactuter's 19th event win. Completing the LMP1 field is the non-hybrid Enso CLM P1/01 of ByKolles Racing team with former F1 ace Robert Kubica as the lead driver.
A record 25 entries are set in LMP2 due to a new set of technical regulations. Oreca has 15 cars: 13 Oreca 07s and two Alpine A470s developed by the Signes-based constructor. Ligier enters JS P217s, Dallara has three P217s and Riley brings a single MK30. In compliance with the new regulations, all the cars will be powered by a Gibson engine.
The new Porsche 911 RSR will make its debut in GTE Pro with two entries. Corvette Racing-GM, AF Corse and Aston Martin will also bring along two cars each. Chip Ganassi Racing and Ford will again bring a four-car team, and American team Risi Competizione will complete the field.
Only cars over one year old are eligible to compete in the GTE Am category, meaning the Ferrari 488 will make its class debut. JMW Motorsport has entered an older Ferrari 458 so the Italian firm provides 50 percent of the field with a total of eight cars. For the moment, the only woman driver in this year's Le Mans 24 Hours is Christina Nielsen who, in 2016, became the first woman to win a title in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship.
The total field breakdown: 31 prototypes and 29 GTs, with 39 teams representing 16 different nationalities.
Two reserve teams – one in the LMP2 and one in GTE Am – will be allowed into the race in case of withdrawal of another entrant in keeping with the order on the list.
