Default Clutches

Do any of you guys run a performance one or just a stock style one?

I have a Spec Stage II in my '96, and an ACT Stage I in my "new" '90.

A performance clutch is good. Hooks up quicker and more positively. Just watch out for pedal effort if it's a daily driver.

Well im debating on a spec stage 1 again or just an autozone stock clutch. I have a cable driven clutch, so I wanna keep it light to be smooth.

If Spec makes Mustang clutches the same way they do Miata clutches, I'd do a Stage II. The pedal feel is VERY close to stock (most people can't tell the difference in my car), but it hooks up a lot better.

Well I used to have a stage 1, it was slighly heavier, rated to 400ftlb torque, and I put almost 100k miles on it before my car was wrecked. Liked it but wouldnt mind going back to something lighter

a stage 1 would run me about $150-$170, a parts store one, would be about $120 or less.

For a part that you expect to last 100k miles (and is a pain in the ass to replace), a $50 price difference is negligible.

I guess it comes down to how hard you are (or intend to be) on a clutch, and whether or not you plan to modify your car to make more power. Will a stock clutch get the job done without slipping and leaving some performance on the table?

just waht ever you do stay with a circular clutch dont go puck'd and if you do go with a 6 puck. my dads Integ has a 4 puck and you spend more time matching the gears to the revs than having fun and if you dont rev-match the gears your reminded with a nice clicking in the suspention and a jerking car....

but yea go with a heavier pressure plate the alone helps the hook up better ..

I run a ACT stage 2 in my honda w/ a lightweight flywheel. Dead hooks with as little power as i make and the clutch pedal isnt hard at all. My mom drives it every once in a while. Im happy with it.

Will your car be making enough torque to need additional torque-holding capacity? If it will then your decision is made for you.

ACT Stage I with a larger flywheel so it fits perfectly with the clutch

I see people out there spending money on the car to improve it … If you spend half that effort just working on your driving skills, making you and the car work together as a team, then you’ll go faster – period. To make the car go a second faster on the track takes a lot more energy and money than making yourself drive it one second faster.
