i think he means running a smaller course may affect it. that or some bmw folk would run the bmw event cause they're helping to run the event & would be missing out on the cfr events. if you guys could organize a joint crf/bmw event on one course that'd be great.

maybe cfr could run a double pts event, no sat practice & sun is a joint affair w/the bmw folks??? just an idea

I'm sure it'll all be worked out one way or another, this just complicates things. We'll have to figure out how working with another club impacts an SCCA event, perhaps it's not as bad as I'm making it out to be.

No, I don't think it's all that bad. Autocrossers should be able to work together in some fashion to an acceptable end. Would be much worse to have a conflict with any one of the other groups that rent that space. They might be less understanding and less flexible, and worst of all, we might not even KNOW about it until the day of the event.

It's probably worth calling/emailing Bob at the airport a couple weeks before each event to verify what is or isn't scheduled on your date.

As it turns out with the SCCA the only "practice" events will now be on the West Coast.

One of the logistics that will need some work will be having both clubs to thier respective areas on time so that we don't have a car who needs to be at one end of the runway trying to drive thru another clubs autox.

I see people out there spending money on the car to improve it … If you spend half that effort just working on your driving skills, making you and the car work together as a team, then you’ll go faster – period. To make the car go a second faster on the track takes a lot more energy and money than making yourself drive it one second faster.

We have run around the Cycle area in the past, but it causes the speeds of the event to go up due to the 1/10 of a mile straight that has to be put in place.

We actually try to avoid that area completely, RE even parking over it . In case a car is leaking fluids. But with a double booked even there is no way around it. We would have to stage in that area, or drive on the outside edges.

My main concern is that the beginning of the runway is not a good area. There are dump trucks and other heavy equipment parked near the edge of the runway. Plus there are peices of pipe sticking out of the ground ( where tents have been put up ). This pipe is high enough above the cement to damage a tire. So the first 200 + feet when you go around the corner is not usable.

That leaves from the cycle area down to the X. It would be hard to pull off 2 events.

Since the gate rules mean once you're in, you're in (except during lunch), It'd theoretically be possible to set up two events if you had the staging areas near each other like in my crude image below.

This wouldn't stop a late entrant for "Club A" from distrupting "Club B's" course on the way to parking/staging/registration, but late entrants don't get past the gate anyway, so it's pretty much a moot point.

The real issue is space--is there enough of it to have two seperate parking areas as well as the mandatory two timing tents & grids while still allowing two safe courses? I'm guessing the parking/"paddock" area will need to be common between the clubs.

Probably this means some kind of marking on the cars delineating which club thier running with, too. People have brain farts and courseworkers should be able to see who goes where from a distance to avoid any snarly mishaps.

I agree it is completely possible to have two safe events on the runway at the same time. May not be completely desireable, but it is safely doable. To get past the near event to the far event, all that needs to be done is to mow a path through the grass around the near event - just like for the motorcycle club. It wouldn't be a disruption, as long as the path is far enough away from the runway - a good 50 feet.

Keeping the paddocks separate wouldn't be that hard - just a few well-placed cones...
