easier said than done. then again only been actively doing this since jan '04 so i still have a LOT to learn. which is why i still take the novice walkthrough at the beginning of every event.

You definitely need to go on a walkthrough with Danny Shields. He's a wealth of knowledge.

One of the single best pieces of advice I have ever been given is this:

To be fast in autocross requires precision driving. You know you're going too fast (overdriving) when you can't put the car exactly when you intend every time.

AWD is far less effective than most people think once traction has been broken significantly, IMO. Prior to that, it delivers. It's incredibly simple to spin an AWD car when pushing at the limits.

Me? I don't remember. I don't doubt your memory of it though I do remember that it wasn't an "event-less" day.

no, i think he was talking about me. yeah that was intended. since i was on the brakes and realized that i i stayed on the brakes i would've stopped right on the racing line or very close to it. and the datsun coming my way was hauling some ass. instead, I instinctively got back on the gas and got the fuck out of the way. Elliot Harvey was in the car with me at the time and told me later that he was about to tell me to get back on the gas and get out of the way but he didn't have to.

One myth that I completely hate is the conception that AWD delivers MORE traction. Boy does that one piss me off....

yes it is. An AWD car doesn't have more traction. However, in a drag style start, it can use more of it's available traction to get the car moving.
