Default The STS "bumpstop" rule

Under the STS rules, what's the deal on bumpstops? I know it says they may be "altered or removed" but does that include replacing them with different (i.e. newer) types? Or is it a case of "if the rulebook doesn't say it, you can't do it"?

Reyenga and myself were having this discussion yesterday. We're not sure of the exact meaning, and you may want to search/post on www.sccaforums.com for a more suitable answer.

Off topic: both of ya'll are auto xer's and you both have sigs with cars missing one or more wheels. Coincedence? I think so! haha

If you can ALTER AND REMOVE I really don't see why putting after market ones on would make a difference. They are just altered factory ones technically.

It's just that they specifically used the word "alter" and chose not to use the word "replace"... To me, "alter" means "make changes to." Maybe when they were writing the rules they didn't think anyone would want to change the type of/update/backdate a bumpstop.

I was just curious if you could use the longer 94R/95-98 Miata front bumpstops on a 90-93.

I'll agree that alter != replace. While realistically, a different bumpstop could be equivilent to an altered bumpstop, that's not explicitly what the rule defines. I suspect that unless the verbage is changed you'd lose the protest.
