Default Alpine X0001 installed...flat EQ..BLAH

I just got my alpine x0001 installed last week and have been having to deal with my musics EQ being flat as hell when its turned up. The bass sounds all muffeled...its awful.

I have an 04' 350z with the Bose sound system. I was told I possibly bypassed my amp and I need an adapter for it. I was jsut curious if anyone might have an idea or ahs experienced a similar problem with this receiver.

There is noticable bass coming out of the 10" sub behind the drivers seat but as I turn up my music the bass starts to blend with all the other pitches.

The peak output of the receiver is 50 watts...Im not sure if that is to low to get good potential out of the bose speaker and sub setup.

Any help would be appriciated, thanks.

The BOSE amp shallows out the bass to maintain accurate response. As you increase the volume, you exceed the amplifiers ability to accurately reproduce the bass. So rather than clipping and crackling like most aftermarket components, the BOSE system plateaus the output to the offending speaker.

The only way to eliminate this is to purchase a 5channel aftermarket amplifier(or directly wire the speakers to your headunit and purchase a class D subwoofer amp) and wire it into the bose surround system. Because the bose system uses 2ohm speakers, the results will probably be less than satisfactory and will require new speakers as well.

I guess theres so many factors involved. The sound quality was actually a lot better with the factory Bose cd player in there. Is it because its a totally different receiver the amp just doesnt match up with the alpine tunning abilities? I read that the bose CD player has a 160 watt stereo output where as the alpine has a 50 watt max output. Im obviously not an expert here. Those 50 watts are distributed to each speaker I assume, am I way off track or would that make a difference as well?

The headunit's power output is totally irrelevant when you have a BOSE factory system. The installer that put in your headunit used the line outputs if he installed it properly, or he used a line converter if he was lazy. Either way, the power from the headunit isn't being used at all.

Your best bet is to go back to the BOSE(as in the original headunit) or finish the job(replace/remove the BOSE amp and replace the BOSE speakers) - it will probably be several hundred dollars to get the speakers replaced and have your installer pull the BOSE amp entirely and wire the speaker directly to the headunit. After that, get a small 200watt class D amp to drive the bose subwoofer.

Also, there are several members in AHQ who can probably give you a better quote on the labor than your shop would. keep in mind you have a 8 speaker system so you will need two sets of components, coaxial speakers wont sound as good.
