Help picking out amp
I have the following speaker in the factory subwoofer system in my car.
Can anyone recommend a good amp to run the sub. These are the specs, but it does not mean a whole lot to me.
* A True Sub Woofer Speaker
* Aluminum Cone w/ butyl rubber surround
* Shielded Magnet
* Frequency Response 45 - 15,000 hz
* 8 Ohm Nominal Resistance
* 60 Watts RMS
* 87db Sensitivity

I'm confused, are you trying to amplify a factory subwoofer or do you have something else in the factory location?

The factory system included an amp and an enclosure with a small sub.
The factory amp died a long time ago and I replaced the factory sub with an aftermarket that is made for the enclosure. The sub is only like 5” or 5 ½”.
I need to get an amp to run the sub, but am lost when it comes to stereos.

So you bought a sub that you don't even know the brand of? Were you running it off the factory amp? I'm confused because most of the time factory and aftermarket systems do not work too well together, ie, factory amps play at funky ohm loads, crossover points, and wattage, factory subs and speakers put out wierd ohm loads, and factory sub boxes are either funky airspace or free-air. And there aren't too many manufacturers out there who produce 5" subs...Focal is really the only one I can think of off the top of my head.

This is what the factory sub box looks like. The box fits up under the dash. The sub I purchased is sold specifically to go in this box. It is the only sub I have been able to find in this size, so I did have any choices. I posted the specs of the speaker hoping someone would know an amp that would work good to run the sub.
The car has very limited space. I have seen people fit 8” and 12” in the car, but for 8” they had to hack up the dash and for 12” they hacked up the firewall.
Does anyone know of a good stereo shop in the Town-N-Country area?

Is the sub 8ohms dual voice coil or single voice coil? Most amps are rated at 4 ohms, which means if you have a single voice coil sub, you'd have to look for an amp that does about twice the power your sub requires, ie 100 to 120w RMS @ 4ohms. If it's a dual voice coil sub, you should be able to parallel the sub and get 4ohms, in which case you could look for an amp that does the recommended 60w RMS @ 4ohms. Hope this makes some sence.

Is there a specific reason you want to use a sub in this location?
You could do something over the rear axel like a band-pass and port it through your rear deck. I have a 97 240 and I am coming up with different ideas myself right now. I could see a small box with maybe 2 efficient 8" drivers built where when you open the trunk you just see a wall and the trunk still looks factory. 8s take little air space and they could work nicely there and give you punchy bass.
It's just a thought.

The sub goes in my Fiero. Space is very limited. I decided I don’t know enough about stereos, so I am going to a shop tomorrow and see what they can do for me. If they do a good job on the Fiero, then I will have them do my 240.
