Sub without crossover?

If I run a sub without a crossover can I mess it up?

Thanks,
Frankie

Frequencies over the sub's rated freq response will not be reproduced accurately in sound, they are converted to more & more heat and could contribute to coil failure. You can still hear some of the mids, but a majority of the power is converted to heat. If you are playing at low volumes it wouldnt hurt too much, but once you start really pounding all that excess heat can really make a difference.

It will also seriously color your bass notes and sound really crappy...

I knew it would mess up the bass tone but I didnt think about the heat. I welded the coil in a 12" Kicker Comp VR once, I'm not gonna do that again. I'll wait til I get a different amp. Thanks :)

you can build a high wattage crossover with radio shack components and use your existing amp. check www.the12volt.com

Yea, they work decent... or you could just have a deck with the xover frequencies built into it. ;)

I have a Alpine rollout that I havent got around to installing yet. I'm gonna use the crossover on that til I get a better amp. Thanks for the help guys :)
