Default Question on Mono Amp on High Speakers..

Quick question...

If you hook a mono amp upto regular speakers will anything come out of the speakers?

Reason I ask...I got a "blown" MTX mono amp from a friend. Powers on fine and I hooked it up to a regular 6 1/2 speaker and no sound, so i figured this amp shitted out. Then tonite i was thinking....maybe its cuz i hooked up a mono amp to a high speaker? Any thoughts?

well, my first guess as to why there's no sound would be that it's blown... just a hunch though.

even though its a mono amp it will still play sound through any speaker(sub's, or mids and hi's) it just wont play anything above the crossover seting. Some mono amp's have a passive crosover that you can turn off and then the amp will put uot what ever you put in to it.

this man is correct. An amp will do its job on any speaker, assuming its not fubared.

Mono amps generally are not as "clean" as a/b amps. This makes basically no difference at lower frequencies...which is why they are so popular for subwoofer usage. It will power any speakers, however.
