ohms of speakers and amps, explain?
Will someone please give me a little info because I do not really have any idea about ohms when it comes to stereo equip. I am going to buy two image dynamic idq 10's but i dont know if i should go with 4 or 2 ohm . Can someone please explain fundimentals of this. Also i see that amps push diffrent watts at diffrent ohm's. TIA
Can someone explain this,i read the whole page but i dont understand why they are still running coaxles/comps with the reciver amp along with the bigger amp.

its been so long that its kinda become instinctive rather then understandable
i know about hooking stuff in regaurds to the load presented to the amplifier up but i cant explain it
Pick up a free crutchfield or visit the website
they have a basic description that kinda will get your wheels turning
and then i am sure someone on here can throw the more technical and mathimatical stuff at you

The rundown...
Ohm:electric resistance equal to the resistance of a circuit in which a potential difference of one volt produces a current of one amp.
Advice: Since it sounds like you already have your amp you want try to match your subs at the proper wattage/ohm rating.
ie: Say your amp is 400x2 @ 4ohm and 800x1 @ 2ohm. Lowering the ohm level will increase your power or watts.
Speakers on the other hand can be wired so they drop or grain ohm levels. It would take too much time to explain them in a simple way so here's a link for u to do some research on. http://www.termpro.com/articles/spkrz.html
Also, choosing correct wiring will be a benefit to your amplifiers.
ie: Think of 8gauge as a 2way road, 4g as a four way, 2g as an interstate and 0g as the autobahn. The larger the gauge the more traffic(power) you can pass through.
Look into buying a multimeter if u dont already have one, which reads ohm loads, i prefer fluke. This will make some wiring jobs less difficult.

Everything is correct in the PICTURE except you have the [speakers to head unit] (*which is wrong*) It needs to be [speaker to amplifier]. And you also are MISSING RCA's from [head unit to amp]. PM or reply if u still have problems.

Thanks for the info. The picture is off of an audio web site, thats why i was wondering why they still have the speakers hooked to the reiver. I dont have an amp but im gonna go with maybe a kicker d class amp. Do you think this would be enough power, 1 amp 2 10" subs.
400W x 1 @ 2 Ohms
Recommended RMS Power: 250W
Peak Power Handling: 500W
Impedance: dual 2 ohms

that amp will be good if u have those 2 speakers in series...it u put it in parallel u will be running 1/2 an ohm and your amp will be fried

Amp will do the job but in either 400x1@2ohm or 200x2@4ohm. Either way each speaker more or less will be receiving a little below nominal power. I suggest moving to an amp that pushes around 100w+ more for each channel.

So you think I sould go with the next step up and run them in series.
RMS Power: 300W x 1 @ 4 Ohms
Bridged RMS Power: 600W x 1 @ 2 Ohms
RMS Power: 300W x 1 @ 4 Ohms
Bridged RMS Power: 600W x 1 @ 2 Ohms
