Aftermarket Valve Springs: Which do you use/trust?
In my new build for my CRX (LSVtec) I want to do the head with Type R Cams and valvetrain with a port n polish.
Has anyone used aftermarket valve springs, i.e. Skunk2, and if so which brand, which head, build, and how are they holding up?
Thanks in advance.

I see people out there spending money on the car to improve it … If you spend half that effort just working on your driving skills, making you and the car work together as a team, then you’ll go faster – period. To make the car go a second faster on the track takes a lot more energy and money than making yourself drive it one second faster.

Stick with the b16 head less worries.most intake manifold,.as for springs and retainers i like rev.they make a very nice strong retainer as for springs tthey r all about the same i mean supertech are the lowest price but great quality and hold up nice on high revs...but for me rev is my vote.good price and great quality. And save ur money on the golden eagle kits its not worth it u can't buy everything separate for alot less,

B16 head with type r cams is my plan if I can fit it in my budget.
I'll check those out. Thanks.

call each company and ask what there seat pressure is on the spring and what there over the nose spring pressure is. generally you want to go with a VERY high pressure spring. all of our race engines run PAC dual valve springs with 230lbs of seat pressure. just make sure your cam can keep up with it and is heat treated right otherwise you'll wipe out lobes.
a higher spring pressure will result in less valve float in higher RPMS. but you may have to change out springs more often.
you can raise your spring pressure using a regular aftermarket set (such as skunk2) by using shims but i don't recommend it. they generally can't with stand the added pressure for long.
BTW i'm using Supertech's lol.

I would say if your only going to use type r cams you shouldn't really need anything other than a type r valvetrain.

its going to stay NA, i'm selling the Vortech system, so no future of needing a really highly capable head to flow more air
thanks for all the tech info that will help
i want to do Type R OEM valve springs but can't come up with the money right now and if it turns out that would be best I'll save up and wait
i agree, i would not feel at all comfortable with shims just like i don't want to buy a used set of valve springs

Stock might not be great above 8700 but for what chi is going for oem would be the best bet in my opinion besides I've seen my friends lsv break aftermarket retainers on 2 separate occasions. He has switched to type r valvetrain to insure some longevity.

For what chi wants to do. I would go with either crower springs and retainers or skunk2 tuners series. Because with such a small set of cams you don't want such a stiff spring rate because that could cause overlap. Or supertech they are great
