lude vs. cougar
i was out the other night on my way back from school and a kid in a newer cougar pulled up next to me... he had quite a few bolt ons from what he said and he said he had just recently did the quarter mile in 14.7 after getting his new lsd installed. im driving my 94 honda prelude (jdm h22a, jdm ecu, i/h/e, auto w/ jdm lsd). we go from a 60 roll and we stay even until about 105 i'd say. then we went again from about a 10-15 roll and i got him by about a car by 85 or so. he said he had trapped 14.7 at 96 mph if i remember correctly. i was thinking that my car would get around a 14.9 or 15 flat. i do realise with my car being automatic i wouldnt pull off the line as hard as a manual but i was still amazed that i beat him.

naw.... why would the same engine have 20 less horsepower because it has a different transmission? all jdm h22a's for the 4th gen lude have 195 hp compared to the 190 hp of the us ones and the 200 with the 5th gen h22.... i think... either that or add 5 hp to all those numbers... cant fully remember

quote from sports compact car: H22s that come from Japan may be from Accords or Preludes. It doesn't matter much to us, but note the automatic transmission cars had only 180 hp, so beware if someone tries to give you an engine/ECU without its original transmission. |

you can call bs all you want. he said he had slips... he said he couldnt trap anything better then a 14.9 until the last time he went.
and about the hp ratings on that site. they are wrong unless they are talking about wheel horse power. the f22b is the japanese version of the h23... rated at 160 |

Quote:
the f22 is a SOHC engine and the h23 is DOHC engine, totally different engines, f-series=SOHC, h-series=DOHC. and i think the people at sports compact car know what they are talking about more than me or you. i know your in denile because you've already told everyone you have 200HP and dont want to admit you only have 180hp, but its true, do some research, i did. ps. i'd have to call BS on the cougar running that time also, because there is no way in hell you are running close to that time with what you have(even if you had a standard tranny/engine and 200HP). my brother-in-laws girl has a v6 cougar with bolt-ons and the best time hes got was 16.9, and an LSD isnt going to take 2 second off your time. my guess, you both are running low 16's, seriously. |

hahaha....yes, there is a USDM f series motor called the f22a1 (i think thats the right number at the end) that is the honda prelude S model engine which is also the same motor that comes in the 94-97 accord ex but it has vtec.... both are SOHC. in japan there is a motor that came in the 4th gen preldues that is called the f22b.... stock rating of 160hp and is almost identical to the h23a1. in fact the f22b has a history of running better times in the quarter mile then the h23 in stock forms. so no disrespect.... you should do more research. i have seen your car at a h/a meet and its very nice and i have talked to you before too....your a cool guy from what i know... and i have known you have a jdm h22a. on average though. most h22 vtecs in honda prelude 4th gens can run 15 flat to a 15.1 with i-h-e. even with automatic. i know plenty of kids all over the us that have time slips and everything along with pictures and videos. so if you need proof... i can get it for you. also ..... the normal whp for a h22a in stock form is around 160-170 from the sheets i have seen. i have also takin 2 5.0's... all both of them had from what i know is pipes but i still took them. hell... AJ187 with the crx with zc swap and bolt ons has taken 3 or so 5.0's and i took him by about 3 cars. and you can ask him. we ran about 4 or 5 times. all the guy in the cougar said was that he had bolt ons, ecu shit, tranny shit.... and a new lsd... i asked for specifics and he said i-h-e and stuff like that. but he also said he takes it up to the track every couple of weeks and runs it. the track is right up the street from me in orlando. and no, stang2841.... that is not a challenge either. i wouldnt mind racing but just for fun. lol. and the jdm h22 trannys in lsd are sought after even for the us h22a1's. its supposed to be the best automatic tranny made for the h22's.

sounds good man... lol. i am in the process of trying to sell me car but i really want to know the quarter mile time before i do. i guess i will run you though. o and i couldnt believe the cougars time either. my family owns a car reposetion agency and i have driven 2 or 3 of them and they are incredibly slow from what i remember. but i do believe him. it was one of the cleanest looking cougars i have seen and he realy surprised me when he stayed with me the first time we went. and when him and i talked before we did the 10-15 roll he sounded pretty shocked that my car kept up with him. plus from everything he said it really seemed like he knew what he was talking about. accord95... have you ran your car in the 1/4 yet? if so whats it run? also you said you dynoed it at 160whp? was that before you modded it or is that the power it has now?
another thing... i previously owned a silver 94 honda prelude s with the f22a1 sohc non-vtec in it. i ran a 96 maroon accord with the same motor and the same mods... both were 5spd. i beat him by over a car both times we ran. he thought i had the h22... i would think that do to the accord weighing less (not by much) that with the same engine and mods... it would pull a little harder. but maybe im wrong? -Zac |
