When an Indian village is threatened by ex-Confederate soldiers, several villagers head out to seek help. The Magnificent Seven (1960) directed by John Sturges was adapted from Kurosawa's classic ''Seven Samurai'' and became a highly influential western, setting the template for the Spaghetti westerns , which were to follow later in the decade. This movie also provided Elmer Bernstein with his signature score, So altogether now!!! Da Da- Da Da- De Da !!! Etc.. (This one is specially for Norm.)

Just re-watched this and The return of the magnificent 7. The original is a masterpiece. As for the sequel, Robert Fuller and Claude Akins were no match for Steve McQueen and Charles Bronson, but the movie is a respectable follow-up. Sadly the next two with George Kennedy and Lee van Cleef were very poor. Lee would have made a good Chris but the series had run out of steam by then. Can't fault the music...one of the all-time great scores.

R.I.P. Steve McQueen (1930-1980), Yul Brynner (1920-1985), James Coburn (1928-2002), Brad Dexter (1917-2002), Horst Buchholz (1933-2003), Charles Bronson (1921-2003) and Eli Wallach (1915-2014). Since June 24th, 2014 with the death of Eli Wallach at the ripe old age of 98 Robert Vaughn (1932-) is the last surviving main cast member of The Magnificent Seven. He turns the respectable age of 83 years old on November 22nd of this year. Man Eli Wallach outlived six of The Magnificent Seven and he was between two to eighteen years older than all of them. Brad Dexter and Yul Brynner were only two years and five years his junior.
