I'm going 4AG more out of limitation of what I can use for my car. Now if only I could find a smallport head with intake & fuel rail, and for a decent price...

why not a 3sg or a 1zz motor? those make much more power. the beams 3sge even comes with a 6 speed rwd trans. and making an adapter plate to bolt a w58 to a 1zz wouldnt be hard.

3t = ancient, no support, good luck with that
3s= good but $$$. especially if you want a beams to go rwd.
1zz is just stupid, 2zz would be better, but again good luck with that, especially tring to make it rwd..
so this leaves the 4a, great, reliable, plenty of aftermarket. seams like the weiner to me.. but all these motors are great becasue they are toyota. the 4a is just the best.

this fanboy 4ag crap is getting old. how can you possibly say the 4a is the best? it doesnt make the most hp, it doesnt make the most tq, it doesnt have the most potential. its not the most reliable. it doesnt have the best flowing head. seems as long as you can extend the list of mods in your sig for the motor, you dont care how little power you actually make. who cares if you have 20 name brand parts if your only making 170hp. id rather have 3-4 mods listed and be making 3-400hp. making a 2zz rwd wouldnt be hard, but then again it would require fabrication, which requires skill. a trans adapter plate would take a few hrs to make tops. and then a forward facing intake, or if leaving it n/a, just grab som itb's etc... and go standalone. then again, people that love the 4a usually cant run a standalone, wether its from lack of funds or simple lack of ability to install and tune. a 3sgte is a rather easy swap for a corrolla. especially if you grab one from a 87-88 alltrac. wont even have to mod the intake manifold. though a 3rd gen 3sgte with custom intake manifold would make double the power of a 4age easily and reliably. yet no one does it, simply because it costs some money. a beams 3sge swap with 6 speed rwd trans is less then $2k(i know, my buddy is contemplating putting one in his 510). why doesnt anyone do it? oh, cant afford the engine. doh. and the ones that can, cant do the simple hook up of the 5-6 wires needed to make it run, or the others so the gauges work. if you want to rev to 9k with no power, stop buying ae86 corrollas and go buy a damn honda. with the honda, at least people expect to see you perfromance shoping at pep boys. with the corrolla, its just sad.
i would say just swap a 2j, but the fabrication involved would cause 99% of corolla owners to fall over dead.

First off a 2j in a corolla is just stupid. Turn a awsome handling car into a chevelle. Yea. Good idea. Second off your comparing a 1.8 to a 1.6. Your not gonna make 400 hp out of a 1.8 and not be close wih the same mod list on the 1.6. And the 4a is alread in and ready. So thats less wasted money tring to make the 2zz rwd. And the 2zz has the better head, but the 4a has the better bottom end. You obbiously dont know what ur talking about when u tring to say the 4a isnt a good motor.

uh, last i checked the 3sgte is 2.0, not 1.8. and the 3-4 mods i mentioned would be to a 3rd gen 3sgte, not a 2zz. also, i never said the 4a isnt a good motor. but it is FAR from the best. as for "saving money" by using the 4a, that just shows that ae86 owners are of the broke ass mentality. wont spend money on true upgrades. the corrolla is an econobox beater. plain and simple. yes, they can be made to handle well, but so can pretty much anything if you put the time and effort into it. if your after just flat out handling, why dont you get a miata instead? or swap a 1j into a 1st gen rx7? or if your worried about engine weight, throw a 1uzfe into the corrolla. its 385lbs with ALL accesories bolted on and makes 250hp stock through the crappy exhaust on stock ecu. 300rwhp wouldnt be hard to make all motor from it. but again, youd have to spend some money on REAL upgrades, like a standalone.

I was talking about the 2zz. Try and focus... I never said anything bad about the 3s. The 3s is a good choice, but like in my previous post i said the beams 3s isnt cheap. The 4a is the best alternative. Tons of aftermarket compared to any other motor u mentioned. Your logic is flawed. Please try again. And saying the ae86 is an econbox is correct, but u obviously again have no idea what ur talking about. The ae86 is an outstanding handlIng car stock. So u must not be a real driver. Which is fine. Go drag race with everyone else. Your opinion on how to build a car might not work for everyone else. Your not a purist, thats fine. But not everyone cares about how much power they have under the hood. The 4a with a 1.8 stroker kit will make over 400 all day, hell ive seen a stock block gze make 500. Go figure..

And as far as being a fan boy, well ive had my ae86 since 98.... But again. I like pretty much everything toyota. So no matter which way u choose it will still be cool. As long as we can agree not to put a f20 or sr20 in it..
