Cant believe i forgot to post this on TR 82 Corolla 1JZ Swap
Well as a select few of you may know i am undertaking a massive project with my first car my 82 Corolla SR-5 Hardtop. After contemplating every Toyota engine(and even nissan engines) i decided hey what about a 1JZ, I can get one with a 5Speed much cheaper than a 2J. My car weighs 2000lbs so why do i need 500HP and with the AC,ps, and hydro fan removed and a nice exhaust i can achieve over 300HP at the crank with open loop warmups and a nice smooth Toyota idle. So $1975.00 later my 1JZ arrived at my Toyota dealership of employment. After 800 dollars in genuine Toyota parts(an an isuzu trooper timing belt) i have the engine externally ready for drop in. And thanks to my dealerships failed drag racing dreams i had an 83 Corolla Shell a free rack and pinion swap at my disposal, So after some mocking ive learned a nice bit of info about a 1JZ and a 4th Generation corolla.
1. The 1JZ engine mounts and the Stock corolla crossmember sit in the exact same place meaning i can make a simple bracket and bolt it up.
2.The R154 Shifter sticks right out of the FACTORY shifter hole
3. a 1JZ looks very nice in a Corolla
4.The transmission tunnel in a corolla is much to small for an R154. (im looking for an MA70 trans tunnel if anyone has one to cut out)
5.A 1JZ can use the stock radiator as a Corolla
6.Cam seals from a V6 Highlander fit a 1JZ
7.And you are cooler if you own a 1JZ
The project is currently moving slowly since bills arent cheap and i make only ok money.
Here be the pics

there's more room than i thought between the strut towers. how are you gonna do the radiator and fan setup since the motor sticks through the supports? i wish i still had my old '81 because i always wanted to do something crazy like that. good job!

To answer your question. Once i get the MA70 tunnel(or worst case scenario make my own) the engine will sit farther back in the engine bay making the use of the factory radiator and fan setup possible. The TE72 Tunnel is small. The T50 trans is tiny next to an R154 and the T50 is a tight fit. Once thats out of the way just 2 brackets and make a new sway bar(since the only way to mount a 1JZ in a corolla is using a front sump pan the pan hits the sway bar) and then driveshaft, fuel, and power to the ecu and she should be ready to drive. Again moving slowly but surely
