05 WRX Engine ISsues
Hello folks,
Been having a small issue with the car... well maybe big issue with the car.
I drive an 05 WRX. State 2/3... Running a vf34 with FMIC, Sti pinks. 20 lbs of boost.
Recently started smelling burning oil when i drive... Went by mastro, they swear nothing is wrong... slight bit of oil seeping at head gasket...
My question is... if its seeping at that much boost isnt it just a step from being blown?
Any other local mechanics with some experience with Subbies that might be able to take a look at it?
If i have to go down the engine work route might have to go for a 2.5 swap...

You have a leak, simple as that. Stop driving the car and take care of it. What kind of engine oil are you running It should be 10w-40 minimum, and not mobil 1, castrol is best for subie engines, especially EJ205's.
oil seeping at headgasket mean it's time to pull the engine out and do a complete valve cover gasket, head gasket and new seals as well as timing belt, tensioner and more.
If the headgasket is known to be "seeping" then it is time to replace it NOW.
You're looking at around a 900-1400$ repair bill

Sounds like you have an oil leak maybe valve cover gaskets Dripping on the exhaust. I have never seen an oil leak on these engines from the headgasket even when its a complete cylinder crack and oil flows into the coolant jackets, it doesnt leak to the outside of the head. I also seriously doubt it has anything to do with oil type. i dont think castrol is the answer nor a great oil for these engines. if it is the valve cover its a fairly simple fix. also might want to look into a catch can with a breather if your turning the boost up it can cause some blow by and cause leaks from various seals. if you want to bring it by our shop i would be happy to look at it.

^ what he said. Might want to do a compression and leakdown test to make sure your within specs.

LOL mobil 1 is not good for our engines? OH NO!!!!! I guess I should switch to Castrol after using mobil 1 on my subie for the past 8 years
