Also, how do you feel about the internals being cryo treated Scott? Notice any differnce when tuning?

There are many different types of cryogenics processing. We have a cryo machine in house that performs a thermal cycle. It will dip down to -300 below and rise up to 200 and it does this for 24 hours.
Every engine we build goes through this process. We also do many race teams in the area that have there engines cryo.
Engine Lab & United speed world have machined our blocks and found it to harder to machine.
We do about 1200 pounds of guitar strings every year because of two main reasons. Sound & longevity.
Some of you may remimber the Black S2000 we had in the shop that belong to my partner Jeff. He sold the car about 8 months ago to Robert. On a sunday afternoon the new owner was going for a cruise and suddenly the car over heats to a temp of 320 degrees. Your thinking melt down?...Nope, replaced the fans and a compression test/leak down test. The engine was fine with no problems.
This was 3 months ago still no issues
This engine was cryoed treated.

Would any of you be interested in learning more cryo? I am thinking of holding a class.

^That is something I would be interested in.

Bobby that would be great! As you already know my internals are getting the cryo treatment but I think there are a lot of ?'s unanswered when it comes to cryo treating. A class would be super benificial. I think my only concern with cryo treating, and maybe you can answer this, is what about the forged pistons? What about P/W clearance? As you know forged pistons expand and thus need a greater clearance. Since the Cryo treatment changes the molecular structure of the metal will the pistons expand the same as a set of non cryo treated pistons? I dont think anyone has tested this.

My tech bought that up as well, I forgot to ask that.

Thats a very good question..We did a Cryogenics test for Manely Rods. They used a laser to mearsure the rod. After we treated the rod Manley retested the rod and found it to be .0001 difference. Trust me you will have more of a difference with heat expansion.
When jeff gets back in town I will hold a class. Thank you for your interest

Rods wont expand as much as the pistons though since they will see more heat. I'm just curious because with non cryo treated pistons like CP's and Wiseco my P/W clearance is going to be 5 thousandths. If the pistons are cryo treated and they don't expand as much as non cryo treated pistons then I will have a lose motor and be burning lots of oil.

cryogenics does not affect the way metal expands or contracts. The main purpose of Cryogenics is to release the stress in the metal and it does by cold and hot cycles.

that wasn't googled i called shep my self, they build best evo/dsm transmission PERIOD and they have tested many different therioes and they found cryo treating helping very little if at all. but they arn't very smart peopke they only have the worlds fasted street 4cylinder and build the worlds fastest evo (AMS) transmission.
BTW i used S&R cryo treating on my dsm trans about a year ago had both gear clusters, ceter diff, front diff and pinion gear cryo'd they said its good for 650 that shit broke as soon as i hit the bottle making just over 500hp my non cryo trans held up longer.
