if you are interested in selling the car gimme a shout.
trust me, any technician that works @ mastro can tell the difference between transmission & engine oil.. its like comparing syrup to water (maybe a little exageration).
your going to pull the car in to mastro and tell them your problem(s)... they are going to have a licensed technician look at it and then they'll call you within an hour and it'll sound a little something like this,
"hello _______, this is _______ from Mastro Subaru. Well, we think we've figured out the reason your engine has locked up... it seems like whoever did your last oil change used transmission oil instead of the recommended engine oil."
"Well is this covered by my warranty?"
"no sir, Subaru cannot honor your warranty because the damage was caused by whoever did your last oil change. We can replace the engine if you would like Kano, but its going to have to come out of your pocket."Last edited by flystiguy01; 01-12-2008 at 06:03 PM.

well every 3-5k depending on oil and driving style

regardless, one oil change per year is horrible.
as for engine options, a complete ver 7 STi swap is plug and play with and 02-03 and you have about 8 wires to run to get AVCS working...aside from that, a usdm STi swap can work but AVCS won't unless you get a custom Hydra (the cost isn't too much more) to run the AVCS...or you can just toss in another none avcs turbo motor (2.0 or 2.5) and get a reflash done to correct your ecu for fuel and timing (only needed if going 2.5)
regardless you probably toasted your entire motor (heads too because of cam journals) and should be looking to do a complete swap/build.

+1 on that. You most likely will be needing a full long block, as Homemade stated due to the cam journals.

Yeah...I remember your call...but you never mentioned that you wanted to put Uncle Scotty's Cocktail in your engine!
Uncle Scotty's mix, or any 75W90 does work great....in the tranny!
...and BTW...NO warranty will cover an engine that has had improper maintenance...like gear lube in the engine.
I think you have an appointment this week right?TR...where details aren't important if leaving them out makes the story bettAr!

wow, a really harsh crowd...and as for the 5-quarts, how much does the tranny and rear diff take?

the heads have a very slim chance of being alright...regardless, if you plan to dump that heap/wiped out long block, please let me know. I could bastardize it for a few R&D parts.

Harsh crowd? A kid who doesn't know how to do something so simple as to change his oil doesn't deserve a car. He shouldn't even buy a civic and get a bike like the other guy said.

+1.
we've all done some stupid shit at times with our cars. i've done some shit that would have everyone on here flaming me for weeks (mostly during my teens but not all of it.)
as long as you learn from this and ask questions first before you do anymore work on your car then the engine isnt a total loss. The thing I hate about an argument is that it always interrupts a discussion. -G. K. Chesterton

...I don't have the money for all that...
...thanks for the info guys but I'm short of $$$...I have a job but it'll take many many months to collect around $5k...
...well I asked the mechanic if he put the tranny fluid in and he said no, that he put Royal Purple motor oil...and if you do remember correctly, you'll remember that my question was about transmission fluid...and If I could use the 75w90 on the rear diff and you said yes...which is why I bought 5 qts...but how would I expect you to believe me when I already caused all this ruckus for a confusion...an appointment??...I didn't schedule one...though I should to check what really went wrong with my engine...can I call or do I have to do it in person??...and I just remembered that I don't have warranty a letter came a while back to inform me that my warranty is out and I had the choice to renew it...and I didn't...I shoud've...crap!
...the warranty still wouldn't have worked...
...well their reactions are immature...the good news is that tranny fluid wasn't put on where the motor oil belongs, believe it or not
...but still new/yong car owners are expected to do something stupid like that is bound to happen sooner or later...anyway, well I believe opie told me 1.8 for the rear diff...I forgot for the tranny since it was while ago but the mechanic put the right amount I was told by opie...
...Ladies and Gents, you have now witnessing first class immaturity...grow up kid...people do mistakes...thats how we learn from them...you don't deserve to post in this thread...I should've exhorted "Mature Responses Only"... but of course I wouldn't expect you to understand that either...and I've already mentioned that I DIDN'T DO THE OIL CHANGE...get it right!!...the right oil was put in...capiche?...doubt it........
...Thank You...everyone learns in different ways, not everyone learns the same way...next time I do my oil I'll post a thread in every suby forum to help me out...including how hard I have to grip the bottles, how many degress per second should the nut be turned, how should I tilt the bottle to put into oil pan, what time of day should I do it, ect...
...stop!! your high level of maturity is too much for him to read!!...
