old school camaro question
I haven't had a gm in a while, and I can't help but notice the american iron forums are dead so I need a question answered.....
I picked up an 81 Z28 and it has a terrible poorly working quadrajet. I am going to put a holley on it but I can't recall (I've been into fords for about 14 years now) if a holley fits on a stock old sbc intake, and is there any difference whether it is a standard or a spreadbore to fit on the intake.
if not, I'm sure I'll change the intake anyways but this was a short term bandaid.
the goal is to get an LS motor into it eventually (I'd love to go six speed) and yes I've already spoken with Shaun about it.
so, short term goal get it running smoother, long term get the funds up to put some new technology in the old body style. I'd post pics but I'm really bad at it LOL
coincidentally, I also just got a smoking deal on some prostars for an old camaro that will go on the car,
the body is really straight, the interior is fairly amazing for a 30 year old car, and short of the quadrajunk, she runs really well.
thanks for the help
Rick

if it's a stock intake I would suggest replacing it anyways. those intakes were not known to flow well, and with aftermarkets so cheap and plentiful, it's not worth trying to keep a stock manifold really.
BTW, isn't Dylan your son, with the blue fox body?

yep, that's my boy, I got him infected with the racing bug years ago poor kid!
I know the intake sucks, just wanted to drive it around a bit before I either do something with this stock motor or get the LS conversion

I have gotten rid of most of my sbc stuff, haven't messed with one in awhile. as far as your original question the quadrajunks were a spreadbore, but they were an unusual size pattern if I remember correctly. there are holleys made specifically to replace them with the same pattern. worst case you may pick up one of the cheap spread-square bore adapters discount sells for the time being if you have a decent square bore carb. if you need any help with info on an ls swap I can help you there. I have been messing with them more and more lately
oh and I'm Eric, Dylan's car was just at my house getting the subframe connectors

they are good carbs, up until that little plug starts leaking gas through the body. if someone could come up with a good way to prevent that problem, they would be decent
