I recently purchased a nikon d3000 with a nikkor vr 18-55mm lens. I can take ok pics with it in p mode and getting the hang of shooting the kids. It came with free classes through ritz and im wondering if its worth the time or not? Any advice is appreciated also for a noob

If the class is free I wouldn't turn it down. The more knowledge you gain the better.

Thats what I figured. I can get good pics but I have to shoot 10 at different settings to get 2 good ones. Just need to understand more the basics of what causes what to happen. Not just get it by mistake.

I would say go for it. Nothing to lose and if you take away anything from it, it would be worth it.
