Project Lucky Brother...90 GT that Im building for my brother
My 19yo decided he wanted a Mustang and wanted to learn some basic mechanics. Well, he's very non-mechanical when it comes to cars...and thats putting it nicely. Either way, he (and my father) asked me to build it for him and show him the "ropes". Fast forward a few weeks and we find our car.
Its a 90 Gt roller...thanks Darren
some of you might recognize this car from another project thread.
Pretty basic -- 5 lug conversion, msd box, 255 fuel pump, rear suspension, and lowering springs
all on the car when we bought it.
Heres how she looked when we got it, minus the prostars

INterior is pretty nice. It an original 5 speed car..gone auto...now back to 5 speed.

We've had this car for months and Im just now getting around to the project thread, so updates will seem a little fast.

After a few weeks of searching we picked up our engine.
90k mile 96 explorer longblock
Since then I tore it down and put in Summint brand rod and main bearings (hope they work ok)
Mahle Plasma rings
new std oil pump
yada yada
Now for the good stuff.
I personally ported the Gt40s after having them checked. Installed a budget spring package and had a basic valve job done.
Also gasket matched the lower intake
E303 cam.
Heres some pics of the heads. The exhuast side

And the intake side

Nothing too special just a good clean up.
Stay tuned for some more post as the engine is now in the car....

Some other things I forgot to mention..
The car came with Mark Viii front rotors, which we switched to the Sn95 stuff to fit the polished 01 Cobra wheels that the car now sits on. 275/40 Mt drag radials on the back and 245/45's on the front.
Rebuilt T5 with perfection flywheel.
Centerforce dual friction clutch
adj. clutch cable, quad, etc..
stock driveshaft.
Exhuast is MAC equal lengths shorties
offroad h-pipe (looking for a newer one)
flowmasters and full tailpipes

You're right, you do have a lucky brother, my dad was never a gearhead, and I was born with the "tinker" gene, he couldn't help me do much. I had to bumble through learning the whole car thing with a $50 buck, 1954 Ford I pulled out of a neighbor's yard. Your brother has no idea how fortunate he is to have a person like you to help him, and guide him through the tough spots. If he ever disrespects you just kick him right in the balls and show him this post.

Well, we got some more work done lately. The car is no longer a roller!!! The engine and trans are in and they alll went in pretty simple, which suprised the hell out of me. The happiness quickly wore off when I started switching the pedals. That was four hours of hell.
Now that your up to speed....Today, I had my brother paint and install the accessories. We finished the wiring for the 3g alt and began wiring the MSD. Also began hiding some wires in the fenders. Its still in progress but heres a pic of were its at as of 10pm tonight
Wont be much work for a few days...its family vacation time!!!!!
dont mind the dirt.....it wont be there long

No real work today but we did push it out of the shop and rinsed the dust off. I took some pics while it was out. Also, gave my brother some thinsg to do until I can work on the car again next weekend.
Im pretty proud of my brothers progress. We started this project and he couldnt tell you what a cylinder head was. But, he recently removed the cam to be traded for a smaller one. The engine was pretty striped down but its a huge improvement. This week hes supposed to clean the engine bay, install the plugs, and install the radiator hoses. He's also doing some of the basic wiring. I guess thats is one of the goals during all this. Enjoy the pics and please lets hear some feedback.

Shes got a decent stance but I think speed bumps are going to be hell.

The drag radials are coming off once it gets running and painted. We may remount them on a set of rims for track days. Its gonna be fun enough.... 19yo, first car, very limited experience driving a manual....we dont need to throw drag radials in the mix

12-20-2011 10:48 PM #15Srsly, get his azz to an autocross so that he can find out how fast he can actually run the car, it's some of the best driving experience you will ever get, it's cheap and safe. He'll find out you can totally screw up and lose the car at only 15 mph.The drag radials are coming off once it gets running and painted. We may remount them on a set of rims for track days.
