500 Horsepower NA Setup??? Help

Hi folks-

I have a 91 Foxbody LX Coupe- it's nice.

It's a 306, Supercharged Fox Vortech Strim

I had a question. What can I change on the bottom end (motor) to achieve a 500 Horsepower to the rear wheel setup.

I would like to remove the whole engine, and go Natural Aspirated. Can this be done with a 347?

If you can chime in. I would like to ditch the Supercharger for now. I have a Holley Systemax intake sitting in my garage, with a brand new set of Trick Flow Twisted Wedge Heads. I'd like to have a bottom end built and put it all together-

Thanks in advance,
Mike in Central Florida

It would be better and easier and about the same price to build a stroker 351 set up . it will be real hard to make 500 hp na to the wheels
with a 347....

Thanks for your thought

I guess I'm going to need a different block I assume then? And then have it stroked out or not?

appreciate any more thoughts, and thank you for the 351 advice. I was kind of thinking that way myself

Also, can I still use the twisted wedge heads on the 351? i'd like to stay fuel injected- so Im assuming my green 42lb injectors will also need changing out?

I have a Treme 3550 trans too

i agree and i also have a nice 351w roller for sale

slowmoving1 04-30-2010 05:35 AM

it can be done if your you have the funds, not cheap by any means.

302 based dart, ford racing block ,363-372 ci should get you there
high compression,high rpm
most NA 347 make about 350-400 rwhp some a little higher

st pete chad 04-30-2010 05:46 AM

yea but like john said for just about the same price you can go bigger 393 or 408.hell you wont spend as much money on a 351w roller block like you will a sportman or dart block

yes you can use the twisted wedge heads on the 351.however if you stroke it to a 393 or a 408 the stock out the box trick flow heads will be small but can still be used.as for the 42lb if you stroke it the 42 should be ok.im building a 351w turbo now with trick flow heads but mine have been ported.i would get a 351w roller block mine  throw your heads on it sell the holley intake buy something for a 351w put a nice cam in it and you should be on your way.as for the tremec 3550 you should be fine.i know a guy with a 351w roller trick flow heads stage 2 ported from fox lake victor intake custom cam with all the bolt on and hes making 480@ wheels

slow306stang 04-30-2010 08:38 AM

we made a estimated 463hp with

a 750hp holley, victor jr intake, cast trickflow twisted wedge heads, cp flat top pistons, eagle rods, and crank, with a custom ground 544 lift comp cam.

and have ran 10.90's with it.

Your gonna need to build one nasty 347 for 500n/a whp.

Would be the same for a 408 or 427. I've seen a couple stout 408 and 427 windsors on the dyno,.. one with TFS 225cc high port heads, nasty cam turning 7000 RPM the other had AFR 205 heads and a nasty cam taking it to 7000 RPM and neither made 500 to the wheels. The 408 with AFR 205 heads made 480hp and the 427 with TFS 225 heads made 465hp. On both engine the dyno graph show peak power at 6000 and then falling off. But,.. both had 400+ ft/lb torq from 3000 RPM and up. The 427 made over 500 ft/lb torq though.

Stock 302/5.0 block will be pretty stressed at 500 rwhp. 351 based block can handle quite a bit more.

306 with a Vortech isnt exactly NA. :P

Why drop the blower?

I was about to pull the Novi off and decided against it.

I made 486 rwhp with 16 lbs, P heads and a mild H/C/I combo.

With 347 C.I. So easy a cave man can do it...

even on 93 octane

riverviewnative 04-30-2010 05:41 PM

well Trey is making 750 rwhp with his 351 block and big nasty turbo. On pump gas. Also have a customer who has a 89 saleen with an s trim and edelbrock heads made 485 rwhp with his 302. I have a 331 with an s trim that made 515 rwhp
