lt1 stuttering problem

I just bought a 1994 camaro 6 speed lt1 with 78,000 miles that had been sitting a couple months without driving. It has an aftermarket intake, tb and mas.airflow sensor. The car has not been tuned since these parts where installed.

The problem is, when going through the gears , hard throttle or normal driving, the whole car studders and shakes and wont rev past about 4500 rpms. I know it has old gas in it and the check engine light came on when driving but goes off when you restart the car. When in full throttle, it is very hesitant and I know it isn't normal.

If anyone has had any experience with this problem or might know what it is/how to fix, I would be very appreciative. Thanks

clean your furl injecters and get a new fuel pump and filter good luck because with the few parts it has on it the car would not need to be tuned your disturbuter my be bad just a few suggestions

wow...so much for doing the easy stuff first huh?

go see what your code is. the computer stores it even if the SES light goes out. after that work from there. sounds like an optispark issue, but one thing at a time.

J@meson 08-24-2007 07:45 PM

alright ill be doing that tomorrow, I really appriciate the help, im kinda dissapointed however becuase I spent all my money just to buy the car in the first place

Sneakin Deacon 08-24-2007 10:32 PM

well the good thing is, its a 94...so you can check the codes with a paperclip.

Mars_302 08-24-2007 10:43 PM

put fresh gas in it for starters, 89 at least

Itonlysmokesalittle 08-25-2007 09:36 AM

I threw a whole tank of 93 in yesterday and it seemed to help i guess time will tell

I would definately lean toward opticrap. That was my issue. I had the same issue about the 4500 rpm nonsense. I would top out at 70 mph. I would first pull the codes brecause my friends car had a bad ground on the block and it acted simular. Sooooo, check codes.

kegaration 08-29-2007 11:30 AM

codes as well

also add some sea-foam to the gas tank

Itonlysmokesalittle 09-01-2007 09:27 AM

Ok well cheak this out, I ran the code and it came up egr which really dosent explain much

Cycle thru the tank of gas you have now and see if it clears up. Will it free rev past 4500rpm with out acting up? You said it has a aftermarket MAF try and unplug the MAF and see if it gets any better. I'm not far for you and off on monday if you cant get things sorted out.

Itonlysmokesalittle 09-02-2007 10:01 AM

It will rev past that when its not under load but its not how it how should. Ive gone through 3 tanks of gas and no change the only other things i could think of were the injectors or the plugs and wires.

gex 09-02-2007 10:52 AM

Try driving it with the MAF unpluged, the PCM feeds mainly off of that at WOT, if you unplug it and go into speed density and nothing changes then at least you know its not the aftermarket MAF.
