When you switched the jumpers I always thought you were supposed to turn on the PC for 5-10 seconds.

Ill keep running my x1950xtx *pimp* Top of the line ATI card for directx9. still runs all my ish at 60fps solid. (monitor refresh cap)

Oh btw, to reset the bios you can A: pull the cmos battery out (flat lithium cell) while the psu is unplugged from the mobo. or B: change the bios jumper to reset or clear and then power the computer on, it might tell you when you can turn it off..it might not do anything, considering your cpu may be fried lol.
I used software overclocking on my core2duo and it did this..scared me shitless since it was a brand new build. I had to reset the bios each time I screwed up. Turns out the software everyone said would work, didnt.

your not supost to turn it on when you clear the cmos. you can mess up the board so it won't keep the bios setting. you'll have to reload them everytime you start the computer. don't ask me how i know this.
won't happen all the time but it can as it did to me. but if you read any manual they don't say anything about turning it on.
PS: my last post about it

^Exactly.
Also, I was always told to keep the PSU plugged in, and as long as you held on to the case while working with it, you'd be grounded and safe to mess with things inside. I've built 3 computers, and worked on several others that way w/o problems.

Just an FYI, You dont clear the BIOS by turning the computer on and moving the jumper. You plug ONLY the power cord to the back of the computer and make sure the PSU is on, then wait 10 seconds. Even though your computer is not "ON" the motherboard is powered in several places, the BIOS reset jumper is one of them. If you reset your bios while the computer was powered "ON" most likely you fried your board. Also, the easiest way to ground yourself is to wear shoes with a rubber sole and stand on tile or concrete, put the middle of your forearms against the bottom piece of metal on the case and work on any part that has a board. I've built and repaired hundreds of computers this way with no issues.
