Fire near Cliff Stephens park in Clearwater

I was walking through the park with my girlfriend for a few hours. We walked down the boardwalk area where there was a bunch of teenagers acting sketchy but we didn't think much of it. About 10 minutes later we saw alot of smoke and flames. I snapped some photos walking back then headed down the boardwalk closer to the fire to get some photos. From where I was standing I could feel the heat and didn't want to get closer for fear of damage to my camera not to mention falling ashes from the sky from the burning.

The photos I took are the beginning of a growing fire. These are the photos I was able to get before the fire grew even larger and the fire dept. and police moved everyone away. The fire ended up burning through the boardwalk and onto the other side but I was only shooting with a 28-80 so i couldn't get any shots from where we were moved to.

I'd bet my life savings on it lol. I hate people like that, If I saw them do it I would've pushed them over the rail into the fire.

It seems like it because they were gone shortly after and I talked to a few people that saw said they saw the teenagers fleeing just before the fire started. Group of about 6 of them. Me and my girlfriend saw them throwing stuff in the water but they had nets so we thought they were just messing around with fishing stuff, obviously not...

Would've stopped them in their tracks. I know if I was a teen up to no good, and someone busted out a camera, I'd say "Screw this non-sense" and bust ass outta there.

As soon as the fire started they were gone. I saw them there before it started then when i got back over there after we saw the fire they were nowhere to be found and other people were saying they saw the fire start and the teens flee. If i had seen anything suspicious i would have definitely been snapping some photos. Wish I could have had photos of them to turn over to the police.

I'm surprised they didn't question YOU about doing it. I remember making a thread on here not too long ago about taking a photo of a dumpster on fire. I was interrogated for 2-3hrs in the freezing cold because they claimed arsonists like to take photos of their fires.

Needless to say, I no longer take photos of any kind of fia!

Wow that is pretty unfair of them. Yeah luckily I wasn't questioned at all. I got some strange looks for photographing the firemen and police though but I was on public property and they were too. Before the fire dept. and police arrived everyone was standing back in the grass looking over at it and i was headed down the boardwalk to get as close as I felt I safely could lol.

When that house in Ozona went up in flames, I saw it from Alt. 19, called Matt to get the camera ready, picked him up and we headed over there. He got about 30-40 pictures and the PHFD ended up using a few on their website. Matt's first "publication" lol They usually don't mind it as long as you stay back and aren't all up in their faces.

Yea the Fire department won't mind... but the cops are just pissy usually since they have nothing to do.

I like that park... It's much better than old the trailer park that was there... I hate when people do stupid crap like that.

Unfortunately I think that they closed it down for now and not sure when they will be able to repair it but i didnt see the damage after it was out.
