The Great Camera Shootout 2010 | Zacuto
Might find that pretty interesting to some DSLR users.
Has Canon & Nikon cameras & film stock too on there.

The thing I don't like about it is that they tweaked the settings for the Canon and really didn't do much with the Nikon/Panasonic. I felt it was slanted toward Canon. Panasonic should of done a lot better than it did.

Well I'm not sure if you even have a leg to stand with that...
They didn't do the test to favor Canon, they did the test because there is film, there is DSLR & many say that Film and the DSLR are very close to one another. With that being said, they are only showing footage, these guys are professionals & don't care what camera they use its all about the results the camera brings.

I understand but Phillip Bloom even said in the video he really didn't tweak the settings on the GH-1. He works with the Canon's more so he knows how to set them up for optical quality. They should of had a Panasonic person there to help but Panasonic and Nikon didn't send anyone but Canon did. I guess that is Panasonic's fault if that is true but I'll have to look around and see if certain people from Panasonic were even asked.
The test was great and I'm looking forward to the other 2 parts but Panasonic's look a lot better than what was shown. I do think with the color test Panasonic will shine but I sorta think the latitude test was worse on the GH-1 than it actually is. The Canons looked great and I couldn't believe how well they looked.DC CREW MEMBER #18

You do understand there was no Panasonic there right?
It was panavison, reason no one was there was because the DP's that were shooting know the panavision's in side and out.
Canon came out because Philip asked them to. I sent Philip a email asking him why he didn't fully tweak the settings in the GH-1 & he said, " I done what I could, the GH-1 is not like the Canon line of DSLR. "
So I guess you can not tweak all the settings like you can on the 7D, I was impressed with the video but take it like a grain of salt, the lenses they were using are 2,000 each lens.... Sure its going to look good, they also have everything at there figure tips.
They have a good gaffer, really good lenses, not to mention they have a editor on set thats color-timing the footage right on set.
They're testing everything for days before they shoot...You'd never be able to do that on location for a feature film.
The HDSLR's lack audio, but are cheap, a panivison camera is roughly 400,000 dollars, then you'll need lenses, etc.
You can buy a DSLR & the only thing you'll not get is some of the sharpness, etc. Well a rental of the film cameras are 1500 a day, plus film stock, if you film 80mins worth in a day that'll cost me 4500 dollars to get in digital... Ton of money for film, I'd rent the RED for 1k a day with a DIT...
I'm surprised they didn't have a RED on location or a phantom, but I guess thats for the next short.

What Panasonic needed to do was have someone like Barry Green or someone like that do the settings for the GH-1. Canon had Phillip there so Panasonic needed someone equal to that. They didn't and it's Panasonic's fault. Also when they shot the chart it was crooked and blurry which was strange but in the video footage it was probably the sharpest DSLR.
RED? Maybe if the Scarlet ever comes out than I could see another camera battle. In the next episode I think the Panasonic will shine because of the color tests. If it doesn't do well in the next episode than I will be concerned that something isn't right with this test.Last edited by alias; 03-26-2010 at 05:09 AM.
