First Try at Light Painting
Looking for something fun and creative to do with the kids the other night we decided to try our hand at LIGHT PAINTING. The basic setup was the camera on a tripod set in bulb mode- we shot between f4 and f8 depending on the light source. For lights we used sparklers, glow sticks, and a couple LED flashlights that can do different colors. Some of the Disney Light Toys they have also got some use- I have a strangely impressive collection of these. We also used a speedlight hand held just to freeze the action at times.
Anyway- we took turns at the camera and at the lights. I should have found a better background than the house across the street- oh well- first try. The whole set along with EXIF is HERE.

These are awesome. My gf made me buy sparklers so we could do this over the weekend after she saw it on the web. Too bad my tripod broke.

Awesome job, good pics! and for s132nr, it is done with a camera on a tripod using a long time exposure and using a light source like a flashlight or a laser pointer or whatever your lighting object of choice is. During the long time exposure you point the light in the general direction of the camera and make your design in the air and wherever you move the light it will show on camera when the pic is done. If you want to freeze a person you use a flash and keep them standing there and then do the lighting around them. If you want a ghosted person take a long time exposure with a flash and after the flash have them move. For just designs you just take the pic with a long time exposure and have at it with the light. Since it is long time exposure if your moving at a moderate pace you usually wont show up in the picture, just the lights. Doing these are alot of fun but the hardest part is remembering where you drew in the air since you can't actually see the lines your drawing. A Have fun!
