Looking more into the video aspect. I know photography and videography go hand-in-hand but the video cam I want is ridiculously priced lol. But the way I see it, I might just end up keeping it because I know in this economy no one will give me what I want for it and I'm definitely not going to basically give it away.
I've already had a bunch of people tell me I'm dumb for doing it. lol

Well if your going to be into video more than I would probably try to sell if you can. I think photo/video cameras will always come down in price through out the years. Normal more expensive video cameras like $3000 on up don't really change all that much. Later on if you decide to buy another photography camera you could pick this one up used or get a better camera later on in the future.

HD I'd scrap the idea about Vegas pro8 and look into Avid. Avid is the nations standard for video editing. Its been around for nearly 35 years so thats the reason why its the standard, the up coming standard will be Final Cut Pro.
Another decent suite to look into is Adobe, Adobe Premiere and don't forget Adobe after effects if you are interested in doing special effects.
But film and video is going hand to in more ways then you can think of...

The 35mm adapters can use Nikon or Canon lenses but I perfer Nikon...
I have the Letus extreme rig with 3 prime lenses, 50mm, 28mm, and 105mm the DOF you get from these rigs are priceless and it actually gets you really close to the film type look...
I'm not sure what camera you are looking into but if its HD then I would stay away from HDV its bad for slow motion and if you go for a SD camera then you can uprez your footage to HD from SD using FCP or AF.
Good luck to you sir.

He probably wants an HD video camera since he said it was expensive. HDV isn't that bad you can always slow down in post. I know sorta sucks but you can. There's a lot of great HDV camera's around by Sony/Canon/JVC. For the price of the Letus Extreme 35mm lenses he could get a Panasonic GH1 or Canon 5d Mark II or Nikon D90 for stills and video and be able to use it in lower light and retain Depth of Field.

HDV even when slowing down in post you get something called strobing. Usally can only really go to 80% for proper slow motion but thats neither here or there.
I also am not a fan of the 5D, it shoots 1080 but its a bitch to properly do audio, the audio rigs that BH are selling are around 700 for a basic decent kit.
I'm a fan of the rig I have now with the primes, if I upgrade its going to be the scarlet when it comes out which will set me back around 15k

Lol this turned into a HD camera debate! What I decided to do is just order a consumer level HD camera (Vixia) and see how I like the whole filming thing. So for now my XSi is staying with me. And I know the vixia has some issues, especially with the compatibility when it comes to loading the video files to a computer but I'll find a way lol.
Tempting.

HD I'll show you how to transfer your video to the computer, I know the format is a little weird and as of right now no program offers the extension but I'm sure in the next update of FCP or Avid or even Vegas they'll adapt to .mod files and others.
The trick of it is to download the program called: MPEGsteam clip, it'll fix it and turn it into a QT file or any file flavor.
