For all of the pictures above, I setup the camera on a tripod in my garage so it would be pitch black. I set the camera in manual mode, adjusted the shutter speed to 30 seconds, and set the aperture to the largest value my lens would allow (smallest opening). I also set the self timer to get me a few seconds to get in front of the camera. Then.....
For 1, I took a flashlight, turned it on once the exposure started and drew a heart in the air while pointing the flashlight at the camera. Once I was done drawing, I covered the flashlight and let the exposure finish.
For 2, I pretty much did the same just drawing flame like waves.
For 3, I tied a string of christmas lights to a pole about 2 feet from the side of the camera, then extended the strand out in front of it. I grabbed the lights about 2 to 3 feet in from the end and spun the loose end in circles causing the blackhole effect while the rest of the strand was slightly shaking forming the particles being sucked in.
For 4, I used the same christmas lights, stood in one spot and moved the end of the strand in a big circle.
For 5, I used the same strand of lights, spun them in circles but moved around in front of the camera a bunch to get the swirls all over the place.
I've seen a few other cool ideas online that I want to try, but haven't had a chance to get to them yet.
