White Avenue Surf Spot.........
I went down to Anna Maria this morning to see if the swell was still decent - it was!!!
I used to surf on the east coast from time to time, but I never tried to photograph it - this shit is hard!!!
Honest C&C encouraged!!!

Awesome pics!!! You said that you thought it was really hard but I think you nailed it as far as getting near perfect pics. I don't think you could really ask for more.

You could get that close with the 200mm or did you crop a bit? Good pics just need to up the shutter speed for some of them

Thanks Mike! I got out there around 8am and left at 11am. I would have stayed longer but I promised my son a trip to the park today.
Thanks Jerm! Not much cropping in most of these, 200mm works fine when you are waist deep about 30-40yds offshore!
You are right, some of these speeds didn't work well. It was my first effort shooting surf and I was moving the speeds around early on before settling on 1/400. It was very difficult to concentrate and shoot while fighting the current and keeping my equipment out of the water

Nah, on the edge is the only way to live!

Thanks Ralph! I always appreciate your input. I wish I would have given more thought to my camera settings, but I'm somewhat satisfied with my first effort.
I kept the color as natural as possible and didn't touch the color in about 80% of these images.Last edited by ERG; 09-02-2008 at 12:05 PM.

Pretty nice job

I can't believe the size though, damn.
I woke up that morning thinking it'd be fun to go dig my board out of my parent garage and go out there. Should have done it... I've never seen the waves that big out there (I don't live out there).
You could have bumped your ISO up to get faster shutter speeds.
