Try true HDR instead of RAW. 3-5 pics (at least) using auto exposure bracketing.

You don't have to have a tripod if you're shooting during the day. Set your camera to continuous, turn on bracketing, use raw... and then click away. Photomatix and Photoshop will both align your images if they're off. The worst that can happen is you end up cropping the edges of your image.

If you're using raw you can get more dynamic range out of less images. Multiple Raw > Multiple Jpegs > Single Raw > Single Jpeg.
