to Adam in tarpon spring area. PHuck you buddy.
Got my evo 1 sprayed at the worlds worst new body shop. I will let the pictures do the talking. But car was brought to him with all the body work 95% ready to go. all paint materials pre purchased. car was 90% disassembled to as to get a nice job without having to tape much or worry about getting over spray on anything. But the car had to be driven to the paint shop so some things were still on car like tail lights and door latches and stuff. whats unbelievable to me is anything that was taped up is now ruined or a lot of work to correct when it would have been easier and quicker to remove before spraying. example tail lights take 2 minutes to remove and maybe four minutes to tape them. now it will take an hour to correct them. (dozens more of this) I picked the car up at night and its likely a good thing. I didnt even inspect car till a few days later. again a good thing. I likely would have killed this guy had i seen it in the day time. door jams and underside of trunk was too be painted. I dont think he even wiped it down before spraying. and can you believe he sprayed over those sponges?? I am speechless with anger. everything he did pull off car left glue that wasnt removed first. runs everywhere that wont photo well. hood has to be resprayed as there are 30-40 deep pock marks. not even sure how that happen. jams will have to be resprayed. no other way to correct. most of outside can be saved with extensive wet sanding and buffing. but holy hell did I get the shaft on this one...pictures just show some of the carnage. its actually far far far worse in person. there is not really anything good to say here..
and before car was picked up I called and asked how the car came out . he exact reply was "it looks good" with upbeat tone. I would hate to see a "not so good" paint job of his.

To be honest the only paint jobs I have been happy with are the ones I did myself. If you want something done right do it yourself. I will put the time in on this one to make it look good.
You dont need to hear how much was paid. It only makes it worse. 100 or a 1000. doesnt matter. this is an injustice to a nice car. And this thread is just fair warning that this guy has lots to learn before he can be trusted with cars you care about.
Even if I had seen the car in good lighting I wouldnt have trusted this guy to correct the work.want a piece of the yellow car? (buy it)

^ im going to have to disagree with you on that. Youre absolutely right.. it is terrible and makes all bodyshops look bad. But im sure we can all agree the price DOES make a difference. If you paid decent amount im sorry for you man. Ive been there... if you took a shortcut.. then I hate to say it but you kind of did it to yourself. In fairness to both parties you should give him the chance to redeem himself though. I feel every shop deserves that chance. But yea... thats some of the worse work ive seen in a while.

I dont think it makes all body shops look bad. Dont know where you get that. It makes THIS body shop look bad. I disagree he deserved a chance to make it right. The quality of work was simply sub par putting it kindly. maybe six months from now when he has more experience. I paid about 600 for body work at another shop. Then 400 in paint and materials. then 550 to this shop. all body work was done. there was only the front bumper, side skirts, handles, and mirrors that werent prepped yet. paint was original so easy to prep. all he had to do was scuff, tape and spray. car was nearly completely disassembled (by me) for good results. I could have got better results in my back yard.
end result is I had to buy 200 in polishing materials so far. another 100 will go toward more paint. and worst part will put 100 hours in this making it look good to make up for this terrible work.
so was is that taking a short cut by your definition?want a piece of the yellow car? (buy it)

Wow. This is just ridiculous. Crap like this is what has me scared about getting the bad spots in my roof fixed and repainted.

Please, man. I was in no way attacking you or defending that crap work. But its what i do for a living, so when i see that kind of product i cant help but ask. I have had people come in here complaining about 'body shops' when in fact it was pedro gomez painting inc who no longer even exists. $900 for an all over was a good deal but there really is no excuse for that kind of work. I understand your concern and i feel for ya.. hopefully this wasnt a friend you gave an opportunity to lol
Hate to say, for the price, they probably would have. The funniest thing about this particular signature is that by the time you realise it doesn't say anything it's too late to stop reading it.

This type of work is why I do business the way I do.
- Everything always comes off (tails, emblems, trim - EVERYTHING) - I refuse to tape things up
- Cutting in the inside panels get the same treatment as the outside - Full coverage and clear
- Runs, if any, would be wet-sanded and buffed out- no matter what. (It looks like you went the single-stage route right?)
- I DON'T do single stage - Base Coat / Clear coat always -
- Insides get wrapped when exposed due to removed parts - no Dust or over spray in your interior
- I am truly dedicated to proper prepping - THIS is what gives the niche to any paint jobs. I HATE paint lines, over spray, ect
- Materials used will always be brand name - I don't mess with the cheap shit.
All that being said, I know that I am priced outside of may people's wishes. BUT, like JAM stated - I'll say the same thing - Also with no hate -You get what you paid for. The prices you stated are "bargain basement" prices. There is no if, ads or buts about it. This is a TRUE 1st gen EVO? Man, you should have saved more cash and stepped it up. I mean look, 400 paint and materials and 550 for the shop? Look at this:
Paint - BASF Dimont WHITE- 3/4 Gallon - 185.00 approx
Reducer - BASF Dimont - 1 Gallon - 55.00 approx (this would be for paint and clear)
Clear/hardener - BASF Dimont - enough to cover 2 coats at least - 280.00
paper / tape / adhesion promoter / emblem tape / Jamb foam / trim tape / misc materials - 125.00
= 645.00 approximate
labor - 1000.00
1645.00 TOTAL for a paint job what will not only done by professionals and look close to flawless (assuming the bodywork is up to PAR by the other shop as well) But will also last you 10+ years if taken care of.
and THAT price is a bargain.
Again, that price includes everything listed only since you said you had a shop do the bodywork. If I had to prime and block the "bodywork" then it would add a little more to the price....
When it's all said and done, quality=money PERIOD. What you paid was peanuts and therefore thats why it looks like elephants trampled on your car.
PM me if you are interested in re-doing the car and want that overspray crap handled ect.......
I feel bad for you bro - But it's losers like the ones that you went to that keep me in business when people read stories like these.

This goes out to all you bargain shoppers out there that want a paintjob.........
Look over this thread and see if you would be happy with a job like this. If you are, then go to MAACO, ECONO, and any other joe blow that doesn't have at least a portfolio of their work. I am an independent and so I have to be on the up and up with my start to finish photos, ect... Fortunately, alot of my work can be seen every month at Street Heat since they are friends of mine and they bring their rides that I've done for others to look over. I have no business cards, nothing and I have work. The work that I do IS my business cards...
So everyone, do you research, ask, look for satisfied people and find out who did it and where and HOW MUCH. Save your cash. Spend wisely. Whether its a HUGE BRAND NAME SHOP or a guy with a 3 bay stall and a booth - Do your research. Ask to see any of their completed work. Whether in person or at least in their portfolio. Talk to people on here that have had paint work. Stop by these shops and LOOK at whats parked out there....
Alot of you are the rice burning, drifting until parts fall off type of guys that proudly love the cheap shit because that's all you want. So be it. But, if you have a specialty car, a car you want to keep for a long time, a show-off car - SPEND THE CASH, dont go cheap....it is a HUGE risk and in most cases your car will look as good as the one on here...
