Color tinting???
I am new i have been paiting for about a year now. At the shop i work at i see how easy the head painter tints color to match. I have lots of trouble with tinting, especialy on heavy mettalics and golds/silver cars. Anything that helped or helps you experience painters to learn how to tint color? Or is it just something that you learn with time the more time you do it/ practise it? I just want some help to make it a little easier. Also i know the color charts help out alot but since im new it hard for me to figure out where to start or what exactly the color needs to match. Any help is appreciated thanks guys.

what brand of paint? BASF RM DIMONT, PPG, ? -
I find tinting silvers / golds systematically. I'm used to the RM Dimont brand and they have a colormatch system with endless amounts of color chips depending on the color like NH737 ... after years of comparing and glaring, you will get it. BUT, if you are down to a couple close ones, its always good to do a spray out. It's all in the blends as well....... No matter how "experienced" the other guys at your job are, It's important to get your own method and soon you will see it gets easier.....

If youre learning its really easy to match all colors perfectly.
Spray out.
Spray out.
Spray out.
Theres really no other way. Even if painters are experienced, the same exact car, with the same exact color could have different shades, the only way to ensure the match is with spray outs. The funniest thing about this particular signature is that by the time you realise it doesn't say anything it's too late to stop reading it.

We use DuPont chroma base system at the shop. And yes I do a spray out on all the colors I am not familiar with. But on those spray out cards when im trying to tint those colors it hard for me to figure out what way to go with the color to make it match. But what Ray said helped that it something that comes with time
