    polishing compound ?

Painted my car with no clearcoat.
I need to know if polishing compounds are ok
directly on paint. If yes, Can i expect it to
look like it has been clear coated for a few
weeks? And i think I can add a few coats
of wax ontop of the polising compound?

If you could help that would be nice.
and if you know some secret brands of
polishing and wax that rrreeeaalllyyy make
your car shine, not just matching there
rivles. let me know what to use on
    str8 paint.

    thanks

No clear coat as in you used a single stage paint or as in you just bought basecoat and never clear coated over it?

I used a glossy enamal and it came out ok. Just needs more shine, I was looking for
a easy-cheap shine. looks like im going to have it cleared.
It's bare paint. no wax no polish. I would like to try a small area to see if
it helps at all. Can anyone explain to me how the polishing compound
works? Does it bring dull paint back to life becuase it has clearcoat and
it is just pulling build-up off the clear and leaveing a bit of shine? or is it
like a bad ass wax? I know it is abrassive but i also know a rubbing
compound is even more. My paint is fresh I dont need to take any off
But im more less looking for something like tire shine. I just want to
brighten it up. I dont mind applying coats weekly or anything.

How much have people heard coats of clear going for?prep and all...

Thanks guys just got off work so I can repy now.

You can't just put "coats of clear on it" and call it a day. There really isn't "tire shine" for dull paint either.

In order for us to tell you what you need to do, we need to know exactly what kind of paint you used.

    A) Was this an automotive enamel that you applied with a paint gun that did Not require clear coat?

    B) Was this an automotive enamel that you applied with a paint gun that DID require clear coat?

    C) Something else?

Dude,I'm not one to bad mouth anyone's DIY trials, but there's gonna be nothing you can do to make that crap you put on your car look good. Why didn't you just buy some cheap single stage if you wanted a shine, hell you sprayed it with a gun so you were atleast on the right track there.

I say you have three basic options for making it shiny.

    1) You wet-sand it with 600, 1000, 1200. Then buff it with a wool pad and some heavy rubbing compound like 3M Super Duty Rubbing Compound. Then come back with a product like Finesse-It II or Perfect-It Foam Polishing Pad Glaze with a black foam pad.

    2) You wet-sand it with 600, then clear the car.

    3) You wet-sand it with 600, then basecoat/clearcoat the car.

A gallon of NASON runs around $120-150 retail, depending on where you get it and if you get a discount or not.

If you just wanted an outside scuff and shoot of clearcoat I would charge around $300 plus materials. That would be a light coat, followed by two heavier coats. I'm sure someone will do it cheaper. I'm just stating my price.

Are you guys sure clear coat will stick to enamel?

You can always lightly wetsand a small area, buff it out and then use a glaze compound. 3m Glaze is what cheap detailers or car dealers use to make a paint shiney for about a month or two. It hides a lot of small imperfections
