    Car Painting

Is this basically how it goes guys?

stick to a simple formula..wetsand the clear coat off the whole car, bondo dings and dents that need to be fixed..spray one coat of yellow primer..sand with 180, spray second coat of primer and wet sand, spray sealer of choice, spray basecoat, then spray clearcoat 3 times evenly...wetsand clearcoat when dry and buff...it will turn out showcar quality depending on materials, equipment and paints you use..

I didnt write whats typed above, I pulled that from an automotive painting forum.

If using quality paint and other materials would this yield a decent paint job? And only one coat of paint? if you wet sanded the first coat of paint could you lay downa nother coat and would that make it look better and help the paint not to be too thin? My car has been repainted once and whoever did it, did a fairly decent job but the usual spots, i guess theyre usual, see it on a lot fo cars, The roof before my sunroof has faded a little, and a little on the Driver side door on the top part.

that is fairly simple and the way to do it but... i disagree with the sealer thats only needed if your running just primmer for awhile to keep moisture out and nicks on finished body work... i would spray 3 coats of base wait about 10minutes between coats to allow for tacking... on the 3rd and final coat lay it thick let it dry over night wet sand it nice spray clear and repeat 3 coats wait between coats for tacking and then wet sand and buff to a shine... always remember the more clear you put the more protection you will have against fading and scratching chipping those simple things...

Thanks Mike, and when he talks about buffing, is he talking about using a high speed buffer to get rid of orange peel? Is that something a car detail guy could do? Also, got a few more questions for you, How much paint and clear and primer does it take to paint a car? And around how much does it run? I see alot of people talking about using matrix is that stuff decent? I remember going to a dupont paint store i think and getting some PPG paint with a friend who was painting his bike, and i remember it being pretty pricey.

yes it is high speed buffing hes reffering to but i wouldnt recomend doing it yourself if your not skilled because you dont want to burn through everything you just layed down... well how much does it take... really it depends on what brand your using and size of surface... if you use a good paint (dupont, house of kolors ) you can mix it a littel finer and get more longevity out of a cup...also price varrieas alot dupont and house of kolors i would recomende if its on something high dollar or show... a brand i really like to use alot is sikens it goes on great and shines for years it usually runs about 75-100 a gallon and then you also have to think about the addatives witch can run from 40-60 each... anything else just ask man im here... my pops has been in painting for over 30 years... hes designed all of the mark3 custom paint jobs and has also painted for e-0ne painting there fire trucks for about 14 years... it runs in the blood...
