In my shop I have a Diamont RM mixing system. And I carry a good amount of HoK for all my custom needs. RM would be on the same lines of a PPG Global or a Dupont Chromabase.
As for the clear I mean that I lay my clear down on the first coat as I want it to look when its done. Some painters would put what is known as a tack coat down first, a real light coat of clear and then come in heavy on the second one. Not me I like every coat to go on nice and heavy. As far as how many coat I use it really depends on the application. If it is collision work or something small that is not that fancy I use about two coats. But if I am laying down graphics or flames I will use three but never more at one shot. Any more than three coats is over kill and you chance getting some serious solvent pop from it. |

Whats up I work at a custom shop sprayed most lines of paint but like hellfire said the tip size is a preference I myself use a sata NR200 for basecoat with a 1.3 tip the lower the number on the tip the smaller the droplets are helps atomize the metalics better ... If when your spraying you see like a striping pattern dark then light the dark then light once its had about 5-10 minutes to flast do what is called cross coats in x patterns but if your using a good hvlp and overlap your coats about 70-80% stay about 6-8 in away from the pannel and spray the right pressure you shouldnt have to do that... now for clear I use the new devilbiss CVI with a 1.3 tip I have shot some of the thickest clear out there extremely high solid clear ... and it lays it out nice, i discontinued my SATA rp digital to use this gun... now depending on which clear you are using you might not want to "spray it how you want it " some clears flow out better then others and if you spray it nice , when it flows out you could run it but PM me and let me know which clear you are using and I will give you some more tips for it... now about sealer like he said its a good insurance policy ... if you rushed the prep and didnt sand out some of your ruffer grit scratches sealler is going to HELP!!!!! cover it up some and in the long run you most likely wont have shrinkage
