Lot of variables such as: jambs and under hood? are you using a sealer? do you have modern/quality spray guns? Dupont is thin and likes that value shade crap. I have seen overalls done with less than a quart un-reduced but guy knew what he was doing.

Im not suggesting any brand. They all work well just personel preferance.I personally like PPG however it is cost prohibitve if you are on a budget.I use a mid level for qaulity to cost value. To answer your original question,a compact car should take less than 2 quarts of base.
