One stage

I was just quoted 650 for all my dents to be fixed and a 1stage paint with primer to get it back to the original red, the owner of the shop said it should last around 2-3 years before getting faded if I don't take care of it. If I wash and wax it once a mounth will it last longer?

UHHH NO! If you dont know how to do it--dont do it. For the price you quoted dont expect much. If you can ask him what paint hes using and let us know maybe that would help. Good single stage will last for years and years but keep in mind good single stage is around $200 a gallon or so which doesnt leave much room for labor and other materials at $650.

Where the hell is he going to paint it?!? Clear doesnt roll on at home in your drive way. The worst that could happen is he would have to strip car to metal and spend tripple to refinish it. Paint isnt simple like it was years ago. If you dont know it-dont try it.

LOL love how all the autobody and paint experts come out of the woodwork to answer questions that they dont know themselves.

I can think of 1,000 things he could do wrong. and im sure oldschool could come up with more.

For that much dont expect much as was previously stated, but hey its cheap, and thats what counts

Leave it to the PROS!

If it was as easy for anyone to do no one would go to a shop!

old school is right single stage paint the clear is so thin its just not enough.im not to good with the whole computer thing but im gonna try and put some pic of my car up i just painted it 3 days ago.but anyway its single stage with 4 coats of clear trust me u dont want to do a single with no clear.

and one more thing im not gonna jump the gun and bash the painter but if he primes the car hes gonna have to lay down a couple coats of some kinda red base coat, then the single stage, then the clear.

?????????????????????????????????????????????????? ????????????????????????

Single stage DOES NOT use clear-- Base does. Thus the base/clear combo. Single stage means "one" spary session.

it came out wrong what i was trying to say is i painted my car with a single stage paint and single stage isnt enough so i started with with some blue paint because the car was a different color then i went over it with the single stage which was the main color, then 4 coats of clear. so in my opinon i think that just painting a car single stage with no clear and calling it a day to me isnt the way to go.

No, a good qaulity single stage urethane will gloss just as well as clear and last for years. I personally like black or any solid color in single stage, very deep.

I wouldnt do it, waste of money. Just save up for the right paint job, because later you'll just be yelling at yourself.
