slightly off topic, but not.
I have a brand new fiber hood that has not seen the light of day. I have seen many CF hoods with the aforementioned "fade" What would be the effect of having a layer of clear vinyl applied to my new hood?? would I get some UV protection from that?? Merry Meet, and TIA on the input |

well bros I'm here to show ya what to do
when you see your CF hood or other parts fading its because its finishing coat
its made of poly.in other words cheap clear resin.there are some of us that works with epoxi.sow it is UV resistance.the thing to do is apply a clear coat of uv protector its clear sow it should do the job.most paint shops work with it a lot,I know this for fact cause I used to build them as cheap as possible lol.But I learned my lesson long time ago.of course Epoxi CF hoods are more expen.but itll look like new for far more time then those cheap things that some time its not even Carbon fiber at all, this are called hybrids.why cause they are made 50% black fiber glass and 50% Carbon Fiber.there for far more cheaper then 100%carbon fibers.how do ya know if its the real deal?...... lol bitz me cause I've work with cf parts most of my life and I cant tell the difference some will say the shine.I have made lots of hybrids for my friends and they look like the same Carbon Fiber I use to build my parts.what to do?well guess its all about trusting the maker and letting him know you want 100% cf.hope this'll help ya'll peace bros Last edited by 4gbstard : 03-15-2008 at 04:28 PM. |

regaurdless its always best as soon as you get the CF piece to spend the extra cash and get it clear coated and watch out which clears you use on it.. use a clear that offers a lifetime warranty or atleast a 10 year warranty such as PPG ,Akso nobel, BASF, dupont

UV it's your enemy! protect your self and your cheap resin CF hood bros..lol.
bro I was thinking you guys pay top money for those hoods, ask your self before you get one the next time: 1-Will this hood make my ride look hot? 2-How many pounds do I shake off? 3-scoup or non what if it rains? 4-hood pins or not? 5-Wtf is Carbon Fiber? 6-Would it break easy? 7-What if some one backs of and hit my CF.hood? 8-wtf I,m going to do? 9-How long will it stay clear? first I won't buy a hood that doesnt need hood pins sec I won't buy a hood that starts turning brown and third I will never buy a hood thats black on the inside. but thats just me.but its good to know youll can find a solution good luck bros Last edited by 4gbstard : 03-31-2008 at 02:52 AM. |
