Clear coat questions

ok im trying to learn a thing or two about painting as this is my first car ever spraying... ive got the tools need.. ive preped and primered one of the fenders just as a tester... ive knocked it down smooth and laid the white paint 3 good coats.. my question is when i laid the clear it still has a dull look to it, could this be not using enough clear and maybe i should put on real heavy coats? ive laid 3 coats also or maybe to much air and not enough product? im clueless!! thanks in advance...

It sounds like you are spraying the clear too dry. Lower your air pressure and raise the fluid amount. The good thing about clear is it is pretty forgiving. If it runs, it can be wet sanded and buffed.
