paint a bumper - $80 or $1,100?
the local econo-bake guy says $80, while the nearby independent shop wants $1,100, since he says the bumper was previously repainted, and stripping it down would take him several hours, and he might find too much damage to paint over, so i'd need a new bumper, so i might as well buy one for $400-$500, instead of paying for stripping down a bumper that he might decide not to work on further.
the car is a gray 1995 cougar. i asked a wholesale car dealer for a recommendation. he said he's been unhappy with the last few jobs he had done, and is looking for a decent shop. i hear about some good full-car paint jobs for $600 - $750 in south st. pete, or hudson, but they're too far away from my clearwater garage. is anyone happy with a clearwater area shop? |

i havent taken my car anywhere up here bc i actually do paint and body work ... 1100 sounds really ridiculous if its just the bumper. the only reason why it would be that much is so they can paint some other panels on the car so it would match better... do you have pics of the bumper? if the bumper is damged than i would just get a new bumper and take it somewhere to get painted...(somewhere else lol) it shouldnt be that much for a new bumper especially not for a 95.. but i dont really know it might be... good luck man...

Seriously I think the guy that wants $1,100 to paint it is smoking some good crack.
We charge $100-$150 for a repaint on a bumper. Check out car-part.com for some prices on good used bumpers. Right now there is a gray one in Lakeland for $100. A new OEM aftermarket cover should run about $200 not $400-$500 like that guy said. If all else fails PM me and I can get you a price on a new OEM aftermarket cover. |

you can prep the bumber your self and take it to the shop for a cheaper price since u did some of the job. Remove the bumper, sand it, prime it, done. If it had dents or cracks then get a used one. I know a place by Hillsborought and Hanley in Tampa. They charge about $100. But for $1100 you can paint your whole car

i know a place in drew park that does a great job. does a lot of show quality work for tuned up show cars. for 1100 they'll take care of the whole car, quality work too. i'm getting my whole car painted and the carbon fiber hood reconditioned for a little more then half that.
for just a bumper they'll give you a nice price, better quality then maco too i always have problems with maco and econo pm me and ill get you his number and the shops address.. i dont have it on me and cant think of the name of the shop. |

I've got a 95 t-bird and 1100 for a bumper with repaint is insane. if your painting it anyways, check your local junkyard for a good bumper. strip the paint thats on it and take it somewhere to be painted. econo is cheap but quality wise look somewhere else. they do a good job but cheap out on materials. a bumper for me is like 50 bucks.

thats a bunch of bs.....sounds like he just doesnt feel like stripping the bumper and wants you to get a new one, jackup the price on it and paint it. and hes saying he may find some damage after? he should be able to tell before he strips it. also, whats wrong with it? you might not even have to fully strip it unless its spider webbed or something. i defiantly wouldnt go back to that guy.

check out Body Parts of America I dunno if they have mercury couger bumpers but I normally get all my bumpers and fenders from there, they are pretty damn cheap it's normally like $70 for a brand new front bumper and everyone I have ever gotten has always fitted very well. Good luck!
