vh45 would be cool but your not gonna get crazy power like you could with a simple 350 swap not to mention the torque difference. i'm doing a pretty different myself never seen it done anyway when it comes to v8s stay american.

Depends on a lot of things, chances are if you are asking for ideas for the swap, you dont have the ability to get it done.
Some things to consider, aftermarket support for the 1UZ, and VH, isnt nearly what it is for an LSx, or even an LTx, $ vs HP you are going to spend less on the LTx or LSx at probably anything 350+ rwhp. If you are looking for cheap, take a look around for an LT1/T56, you should be able to get something for similar price to the vh or 1uz, and will make more power per $. Mckinney makes the oil pan, i'd fabricate my own mounts, but they do have those available also. |

i was goin to do the VH45 at one point but in order to make it 5speed i would have to buy or make an adapter plate and use a Z32 tt tranny and started to get expensive and parted what i had out as far as the 1uz they run really well we did a mk3 with one and ran awsome

LT1/T56 should run you about $1000-1200 or so, the VH thing yes you can get one at junkyard, but again stuck with the transmission issue, and by the time you get that straightened out engine and trans vs engine and trans the cost is probably going to favor the LT1, and the power certainly will also, just a cam swap will put you around 360 RWHP NA, or get cam/heads package for about $1800, and you are at 400-420 RWHP.

The LT1 boxes have come down a lot in price in the past year or so. You have to look around but $800 or so isnt too hard on the trans, you can find them cheaper, and the engine can be had at LKQ, out of the big body cars, just swap the heads for a set of camaro/vette/firebird ones for $150, done. My T56 cost me $200, needed a $200 gear to fix it, $400 or so for a MN12 ratio GTO box. The other one I have cost me $350, and I was going to convert it to fbody/gto style, which would cost about $600 using new parts, which again isnt bad considering its the same gearing as the 98-02 camaro firebird box but with the corvette / gto / ctsv triple cone synchros, which supposedly work miracles for shift smoothness. I wouldnt bother doing a T5 setup though, if for nothing else other than the shifter location being too far forward. |
