Um, okay. You're probably doing it wrong, I won't hate on you too much.
Au contraire, I think that being a cheap bastard and doing something the wrong way should be chastised properly. J30's are inexpensive and in most cases, actually help your wallet with the taller final drive (numerically lower).
Do it once, do it right or don't do it at all. Sell your car and buy a Civic.

I have a welded diff on my DD. I have another car but just dont drive it....But anywho I dont have any problems with it. Just when its wet my back end slips out a little bit but like someone else said if you know how to control it its not a big deal. Just watch out on the interstates at high speeds.

I dont see it as being cheap at all, The J30s Are getting pretty old and only work half the time, its either hit or miss with those. I like the welded because I know Itll do what I want it to every single time I go sideways.
The only other option Id go with is a 2way, I dont really see the point of getting one of those just to spend $600+ on something Id have to service all the time when I could have a bulletproof welded for 30bucks and put 570 into suspension, brakes, seat or something neat.
even if I had extra cash for a 2way, id still pick to have a welded.
if its not broken, why fix it?
Also it just depends on what type of driving you do with the car too. Id rather get a real lsd if you were doing some type of autocrossing etc.Last edited by Kung.; 10-06-2008 at 08:28 PM.

Um ok? What am i doing wrong? I've noticed understeer when my cars had both open and welded differentials. Many s13 owners i've talked to have talked about understeering issues. Keiichi Tsuchiya even explains how s13's understeer in the drift bible videos. My point is i like my diff. Some people dont like welded diffs. He asked a question about how people like daily driving welded diffs and i gave my opinion.

OMG, you did not just go there.
On one hand I think its all personal preference. I had a couple and I never thought twice about them. Sure you go through tires quicker, but I wouldnt blame it all on the diff. I'd blame it on my driving habits BECAUSE i had a welded diff. shits fun.
limited slip ≥ full lock; your tires will suffer either way.
On the other hand, I think if you have to ask, its probably not for you. You obviously havent been driving s-chassis much to know handling characteristics. Try experiencing it before you commit.Last edited by Chris C.; 10-06-2008 at 09:51 PM.

With a crappy or improperly set up suspension, it will understeer. When you take the time to research a decent setup and then continue on to adjusting it properly, it will be very neutrally balanced, even with a heavy KA.

welded ftmfw. it is so much fun and so easy to get sideways. in the rain all you have to do is give it a lil more gas. its amusing if nothing else. the rain is fun on the highway because then you play the game of not sliding into other cars. thats the most exciting part. i waited far too long to go welded fuck lsds... at least in ka cars.
RIP my very best friend. DJ aka djzstang1 you will be missed dearly. I love you bro.

its probably already said, but welded diffs could probably make you a better driver, learning to counter steer more than with a none welded. but none the less they are pretty fun
