Thread: Lets learn about our SR20DEs...

Alright. Apparently somebody went apeshit about the output of the SRs because they like their car and feel that they should give some love to their car but to say it has 155hp to the wheels from the factory is just asking for it.
If I forget to say at the wheels or fw assume its at the flywheel.
The front wheel drive sr20de had 140hp and 132 lb torque. I could care less about the y2k model because I dont have it and nor does anybody this involves. The rear wheel drive sr20de that appeared in the Silvia Qs from 1988-1990 had 155 hp but even that was the flywheel. This was due to better flowing cams intake and exhaust manifolds. The S15 silvia introduced a 160hp sr20de that made its debut with the Varietta which is the convertible S15. Why they didnt give it the DET is beyond my comprehension.
The SR20DET made its great appearance in one of either two cars. The blue bird or the silvia Im not sure which first but I would say the Silvia. It replaced the CA18DET as the powerplant of choice for Nissan. this new SR20DET had 205 horsepower replacing the 180hp CA18. 205 hp was the figure until the S14 silvia came out with its black valve cover and a more menacing 215 or 220 horsepower. I really dont know which one it is but I know its a little peppier but not much. The turbo also changed from a T25 to a T25/T3. Boost rules. S15 got a nice ball bearing t28 and raised the heck out of the boost which yeilded 250hp. maybe more maybe less but thats what ive read in the current magazines.
Well what im getting to is that there are not two versions of the usa spec sr20de on a front wheel drive car. you were conned. 140 hp is 140hp is 140hp is 140hp. Now dyno it to find out what it really has. Ex. When my 160hp non turbo z31 put down 148 with 170k on it you wonder what it really had stock or if its ever had work done to it. (Whitey never opened it up until after the lifters collapsed found big cams inside)Advocate for the People's Republic of Awesome

Matt everything u said is absoluty postively 100% correct except for one thin...there are 3 versions of the SR20DE-Ts. one came in the Sylvias one in the BlueBird and the other in the Sunny Pulsar GTi-R. The GTi-R DE-T comes with lower compression (8.3:1 compared to 8.5:1) 440cc injectors (compared to the 370cc) Quad throttle bodies (yes 4!!!) and umm stronger internals and something about the valve-train thats different...different type of cams. but these motors are great motors and only 5000 of them were made from 90-94 and guess what... i got one

Sabri I am SOO sorry for forgetting the best one of them all. I knew about it I always liked talking about em and everything but it just slipped my mind simply because they are a rarity. The swap in your car is immaculate. Didnt they NOT have hydraulic lifters or something but solid rocker arms??? Something like that. Maybe not. Yes the cam profiles were different also and I belive a higher volume oil pump as well. Can you say everything was completely forged
My jspec motor is.
