Default dan's Ugly Duckling that could! S13 coupe

Ok, SO the storys the same for most people who start out with these cars "bought with a blown Head gasket!" woohoo...
Its been about a year since I had the car replaced the gaskets timmed the engine all those fancy things, done by myself by going off the FSM..

Got it running! but It would only run for about 15 sec than die,. couldnt figure out why so I checked the oil once again and there was A HUGE amount of water in it,, again.. I am talking everything from the fucking rad was in the oil pan... No to mention the metal chunks everyware in the pan. from a timming tensioner I assume./

SO I suspected hole or crack in the block.. Took the engine out and dissasembled the whole thing! Mean wile the engine had amazing numbers 180 PSI on all 4. (internals up for sale.)

Couldnt find a hole or crack so i just said fuck it I will buy a Ka off someone that is running, In the mean time I am doing body/ interior work. THis is my first s chassis and really anything that ive worked on. And I am damn sure learning alot. I am located in Hernando co. so Parts seem hard to find cant find a ka for the life of me.
So I took the carpet out to find such a huge rust hole.. Lol ill let the pics do the talking..

Enough about the car back round on me. I have been into avation since i was a toddler, going up in planes, Working on them with my dad that was my life So my mechanical backround is pretty decent! I used to port and polish R/C helicopter engines. so I got into cars!
Now the pics will flow ...

If that is the oil pickup, those chunks are amazing.
Was it really the timing tensioner?

With good compression, was it just easier to find another engine?
What did you go through to get it?

Yes there where some huge ones. Dont know on the parts it came from tho. The pistons, bearings, crank, all that where in damn near new condition.

But it was a hard decision saying fuck this engine basically. I tore it fully apart to bare block and did not see any crack or hole. So my plan now is to keep on the hunt for a KA24de running, locally.

In the mean time I will start stripping the interior, If anyone needs this stuff hit me up. Its all forsale.
I have a tan inside.

Welp time to get to work on it and take some pics. catch up later!

Little update, Might just get a long block and slap my head on it, and be done with that.

Any thoughts on the idea?

So......
Good compression.
Can't find where the water came from.
Not yet found where the metal came from.

Was there any evidence of metal shavings in any of the bearings?
I would cut the oil filter apart with a can opener, unfold the filter element and see if there
is any shavings in the filter........it should have caught them. Open the oil pump and see
if there are shavings in the oil pump. I'm presuming you already checked the oil pan for shavings.

I'm thinking the oil pump metal may have been a previous encounter with previous owner
but maybe the metal did not get far enough in to damage anything.

If you cannot find anything wrong with the previous block, and you will put a head gasket on another
long block that you will have to buy anyway......if there is nothing wrong with the previous block, is it
worth the price of a head gasket to clean everything and put the head gasket on the previous block?

You will have to check all the things I mentioned if you buy another long block...... unless it is new.
What will another long block cost you?

Basically the internals looked damn near perfectly brand new,
the block as well, Still no idea where it came from. Thinking about honestly rebuilding mine, but I need to get an engine asap to commute back and forth to work. Literly dont care about the condition of the engine, if it runs id put it in. as long as i could get back an forth to work. but for now I havnt done much on it
