Speedo Problem

Allright guys,

I was having speedometer problems when i got the car. The speedo completely didnt work, and the check engine light was on. Turns out the VSS (Vehicle Speed Sensor) was unplugged. So i just plugged it back in. Check engine light went away but the speedometer still doesnt work. The trip odometer part of the speedo works now. Do you think its a problem with the VSS, or is it the actual speedometer in the dash thats broken?

A VSS is like $15-$25, just replace it first; as it's chump change to swap out. Beyond that, check the wiring first.

Fallen, thanks bro! I had planned on doing that tommorow. I really hope that fixes the problem. Ive got the car going to the paint shop in two weeks, then she will be all right, (and all white, LOL). Then ill have the headliner redone, and shell be a perfect car.

Does the odometer still work? If it was just the needle that was broken I would think the odometer would still work, but I could be mistaken. Either way, like fallen said its cheap and easy to fix. GL

Yea the first problem was the odometer wasnt working as well as the speedo not working and there was a CEL on. Turns out the VSS wasnt even plugged in, so i plugged it back in, now the CEL went away, and the odometer works, just not the speedometer.
